Meprolight Tru-Dot for Colt 1911 Government

• Self-illuminated tritium system: the Meprolight Tru-Dot sight picture stays visible in low light and at night without batteries, so the pistol remains ready for defensive or duty use at any hour.
• Three-dot alignment: the green 3-dot layout gives a familiar, fast sight picture that helps the eye center the front sight quickly in both daylight and dim conditions.
• Steel construction: the all-steel build is better suited to everyday carry, repeated holstering, and hard use than more fragile sight materials.
• Fixed-sight configuration: a fixed front and rear setup keeps the system simple and durable, making it well suited to shooters who want a dependable zero with minimal maintenance.
• Colt 1911 Government fit: this version is made for the Colt 1911 Government platform, giving owners a dedicated replacement sight set rather than a generic handgun sight solution.

About the Meprolight Tru-Dot Series

Meprolight Tru-Dot is the company’s established line of self-illuminated handgun sights, built for shooters who want a simple sight picture that works in bright daylight as well as in reduced light. In Meprolight’s current handgun range, the series includes fixed, adjustable, and suppressor-height sights, which places it as a broad family for defensive pistols, service handguns, and practical carry setups. The defining feature is the three-dot aiming layout, designed to present a consistent visual reference across changing light conditions.

Instead of relying on batteries, Tru-Dot sights use tritium illumination to provide a visible aiming reference in low-light and nighttime conditions. That makes the series especially relevant for users who want a pistol sight that is always on and does not depend on switches or charging routines. Across the range, Tru-Dot models are built as replacement front and rear sights for specific handgun platforms, and selected versions are offered in different tritium dot color combinations. The series is aimed at shooters who value a durable, straightforward sighting system with familiar alignment, making it a practical choice for concealed carry, duty pistols, and general defensive handgun use.

About the Meprolight Tru-Dot for Colt 1911 Government

The Meprolight Tru-Dot for Colt 1911 Government is a dedicated tritium night sight set for one of the most widely recognized full-size pistol platforms. Its role is straightforward: replace standard iron sights with a system that remains usable from full daylight into low-light conditions, while keeping the handling qualities of the pistol familiar. For a 1911 used for defensive carry, range training, or service-style shooting, that means faster sight acquisition when ambient light is poor and no dependence on batteries or electronic controls.

The sight picture uses a green 3-dot arrangement, a format many shooters already know well. In practical use, that familiar layout helps the eye pick up the front sight quickly while still giving a clear rear reference for alignment. The fixed sight adjustment also suits the intended role of the pistol: it reduces complexity, avoids exposed adjustment mechanisms, and favors a robust setup that stays consistent through repeated draw-and-holster cycles.

Its steel construction supports that same purpose. On a carry or duty handgun, steel sights are better suited to knocks, holster wear, and long-term use than lighter but less durable alternatives. The square rear sight gives a clean rear notch profile, helping the front dot stand out during rapid alignment. Combined with the black sight body, the system keeps visual clutter low in daylight while allowing the tritium dots to take over when light fades. For shooters who want a classic 1911 sight upgrade centered on reliability and low-light usability, this model stays focused on the essentials.

About Meprolight

Meprolight was founded in 1990 as a supplier of sights and battle optics to the Israel Defense Forces. Based in Or Akiva, Israel, the company is a division of SK Group and develops optical and electro-optical sighting systems for military, law-enforcement, and civilian users. Its product range covers conventional sights, tritium night sights, reflex optics, magnified optics, magnifiers, night-vision systems, and thermal devices.

That background is especially relevant in the handgun sight category. Meprolight has long focused on sighting systems for pistols, rifles, shotguns, and carbines, with an emphasis on practical durability and fast target acquisition. In products such as the Tru-Dot series, that experience shows in the use of self-illuminated tritium technology, simple sight pictures, and steel construction suited to hard field and carry use.
