Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD 10x42 Gen 2

• 10x42 configuration: The combination of 10x magnification and a 42 mm objective gives this binocular enough reach for scanning open country while still remaining manageable for long sessions of handheld glassing.
• Elite Optical System and HD glass: Leupold pairs high-quality glass with improved coatings to increase clarity, control glare, and hold image brightness in difficult light, which helps when picking detail out of shadows at dawn, dusk, or across reflective terrain.
• Open-bridge roof prism design: The slim open-bridge body is easier to grip securely with one hand and keeps weight down, making the binocular more comfortable to carry on long hunts or full days of birding.
• Form-Fit eyecups and generous eye relief: 17 mm eye relief and interchangeable eyecups improve comfort during extended viewing and make the binocular easier to set up for eyeglass wearers or users who want better stray-light control.
• Tripod-ready, waterproof construction: A built-in 1/4-20 tripod adapter port and waterproof, fogproof sealing make the BX-4 Pro Guide HD Gen 2 practical for steady long-range observation and dependable use in wet, cold, or changeable weather.

About the Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide Series

The Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide series was introduced as a hunting-focused binocular family built for extended glassing, especially in the low-light periods when game is most active. Announced in 2017, the original line combined an open-bridge design with roof prisms, twist-up eyecups, and Leupold’s Twilight Max HD Light Management System to balance portability with practical field performance. The series was positioned above entry-level observation optics, aimed at users who needed stronger optical performance and better all-day handling without moving into oversized specialist binoculars.

Across the range, the BX-4 Pro Guide family has covered versatile formats such as 8x32, 10x32, 8x42, 10x42, 10x50, and 12x50, giving hunters and outdoor users options from compact carry to higher-magnification glassing. Leupold’s current lineup includes Gen 2 models, described as an upgrade to the original binocular line. The series remains defined by its emphasis on practical brightness, glare control, and comfortable ergonomics for long sessions behind the glass, making it well suited to hunting optics, wildlife observation, and general backcountry use.

About the Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD 10x42 Gen 2

The Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD 10x42 Gen 2 is the most all-around configuration in the series, combining 10x magnification with a 42 mm objective lens for a balance of reach, image brightness, and packability. In practice, that makes it equally useful for scanning ridgelines, checking timber edges, or following birds and wildlife across mixed terrain. Its 105 m/1000 m field of view is wide enough to stay oriented in tighter country, while the 10x image still gives enough detail for more deliberate observation at distance.

Optically, this model uses Leupold’s Elite Optical System, HD lenses, and fully multicoated surfaces to improve contrast, reduce glare, and keep the image clean in difficult light. The Schmidt/Pechan roof prism layout keeps the binocular compact, and phase-coated prisms help preserve resolution across the image. A 4.2 mm exit pupil and 17 mm eye relief support comfortable viewing, with enough eye relief for many eyeglass wearers and enough exit pupil to keep the image easy to acquire in changing field positions.

Mechanically, the open-bridge body and central focusing system are designed for secure handling and quick adjustment. The click-lock central diopter helps keep the binocular set once it is matched to the user’s eyes, while interchangeable Form-Fit eyecups let the fit be tailored for comfort or better stray-light blocking. At 708 g and 144.80 mm long, it stays portable for backcountry carry, and its waterproof, fogproof, tripod-adaptable construction makes it a practical hunting binocular for long days in variable weather.

About Leupold

Leupold & Volpel was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1907 by Fred Leupold and Adam Volpel. In 1968, Leupold moved its manufacturing plant and headquarters to Beaverton, Oregon, where Leupold & Stevens, Inc. remains based.

Today, Leupold is a family-owned American optics manufacturer known for sport optics used in hunting, shooting, and outdoor observation. Its product range includes riflescopes, red dot sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders, and thermal optics. Within binoculars and related observation gear, Leupold is known for building field-oriented designs that emphasize practical low-light performance, durable construction, and handling suited to long days outdoors.
