Kowa YF II 8x30 Product description

  • Porro prism design: The classic Porro layout gives the Kowa YF II 8x30 a naturally spacious image with strong depth perception, which helps when following birds, trail markers, or moving subjects at short to medium distances.
  • Wide 7.56° field of view: A broad 132.30 m/1000m view makes it easier to scan woodland edges, coastlines, and open paths without constantly repositioning the binoculars.
  • Fully multicoated optics: The lens coatings improve light transmission and contrast, giving a brighter, cleaner image in overcast weather and during the low-light periods when compact binoculars are often pushed hardest.
  • 16.00 mm eye relief: The generous eye relief makes the binocular more comfortable for extended viewing and more accommodating for eyeglass wearers who need to see the full field without strain.
  • Nitrogen-filled waterproof housing: Waterproof and fogproof construction helps the binocular stay reliable in rain, damp woodland, and rapid temperature changes, so it remains practical for regular outdoor use.

About the Kowa YF II Series

The Kowa YF II series sits in Kowa’s range as a compact, straightforward binocular family built for users who want a light, easy-to-carry optic without moving to very small objective lenses. These binoculars are aimed at hiking, travel, casual wildlife observation, and family outdoor use, where low weight and simple handling matter as much as optical quality. The series uses a Porro prism design, which gives it a more traditional shape but also brings practical benefits in the form of a broad, immersive image and a good sense of depth.

Across the range, the design philosophy is clear: keep the binocular portable, weather-resistant, and easy to focus, while maintaining the bright, relaxed viewing that makes 30 mm class binoculars appealing. Fully multicoated optics, central focusing, and nitrogen-filled construction support dependable field use in changing weather. The YF II line is especially well suited to users who want a binocular that feels more open and natural than many pocket models, while still remaining compact enough for day hikes, sightseeing, and general outdoor observation.

About the Kowa YF II 8x30

The Kowa YF II 8x30 is the more relaxed, all-round option in this format. Its 8x magnification gives enough reach for birding, hiking, and general nature observation while remaining easier to hold steady than higher-power compact binoculars. That makes it a practical choice for long viewing sessions, younger users, and anyone who values a calm image over maximum magnification. Combined with a 30.00 mm objective lens, it offers a useful balance between portability and image brightness for daytime use and the last part of the afternoon.

One of the model’s strongest points is its 132.30 m/1000m field of view. In practice, that wide view helps with locating subjects quickly and keeping them in frame, whether watching birds move through trees or scanning a landscape from a trail. The 3.75 mm exit pupil supports comfortable eye placement, while 16.00 mm eye relief improves usability for eyeglass wearers and reduces fatigue during extended observation.

The binocular also focuses down to 5.00 m, which is useful for nearby details such as insects, flowers, and objects along a path. Its central focusing system keeps operation simple and quick, and the right-eye diopter allows the view to be matched to the user’s eyesight. With a 475.00 g body, waterproof and fogproof construction, and nitrogen filling, this is a compact hiking binocular designed for regular outdoor use rather than occasional fair-weather outings.

About Kowa

Kowa’s origins date to 1894, when Hattori Kanesaburo Wholesale Store was founded in Nagoya, Japan. The company entered optical equipment manufacturing in 1946, beginning with spectacle lenses and opera glasses, and it later expanded its role in sporting optics. In 1952, Kowa released Japan’s first spotting scopes, the TS-1 and TS-2, establishing an early position in this field.

The company changed its name to Kowa Company, Ltd. in 1960, and Kowa spotting scopes were selected as official equipment for shooting events at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Today, Kowa is especially well known for binoculars and spotting scopes, including the PROMINAR line. In its higher-end optics, Kowa uses technologies such as pure fluorite crystal and XD optical elements, reflecting a long-standing focus on image clarity, color control, and field-ready optical design.
