Hawke Frontier 8x42 LRF Product description

  • Integrated Laser Rangefinder with 6 Measurement Modes: The built-in laser rangefinder measures distances from 10 to 1,800 metres with an accuracy of ±1 metre, with measured values displayed on an internal OLED display with 6 adjustable brightness levels. Six operational modes cover the full range of hunting and field applications: Standard for direct line-of-sight distance, Horizontal Distance for the compensated flat-range equivalent on sloped terrain, Angle to display the inclination angle, Rain mode to filter environmental returns and prioritise solid target readings, Near mode for close-range priority in cluttered environments, and Hunt mode for game-priority measurements in front of a treeline or vegetation background.
  • H7 Optical System with Patented Prism and True Colour Optics: The H7 optical system uses a patented prism system with beam split coating — a proprietary design that Hawke uses across the Frontier binocular range to maximise light transmission and colour accuracy through the prism stage. Combined with fully multi-coated lenses with wide-band anti-reflection and water-repellent coatings on all external surfaces, the result is high light transmission and natural, high-contrast colour rendering at 8× across varying lighting conditions. The apparent field of view of 60° provides a spacious, immersive sight picture.
  • 8× Magnification with Wide Field of View: The 8× magnification combined with a 42mm objective lens and a field of view of 131 metres at 1,000 metres provides a practical balance of image scale and situational awareness for hunting, wildlife observation, and rangefinding use. The exit pupil of 5.3mm supports adequate image brightness across a wide range of ambient light conditions, and the 16mm of eye relief accommodates comfortable use for eyeglass wearers.
  • Magnesium Alloy Chassis with IPX7 Waterproofing: The binocular body is constructed from magnesium alloy — providing structural rigidity and durability in a lower-weight package than equivalent aluminium or polycarbonate designs. The chassis is nitrogen purged, fogproof, and sealed to IPX7 waterproof standard (submersion to 1 metre depth), ensuring reliable optical and rangefinder performance in rain and adverse field conditions. The rubber armour provides grip and impact absorption during carry.
  • OLED Display with Auto Shut-Off and Adjustable Brightness: The internal OLED display presents ranging data in red against the sight picture without interfering with the viewed image in the way that a reflected display might. Display brightness is adjustable across 6 levels for visibility in all ambient light conditions. The auto shut-off activates after 15 seconds of inactivity to conserve the CR2 battery.

About the Frontier LRF Binocular Series

The Hawke Frontier LRF series is Hawke's premium rangefinding binocular range, built on the H7 optical system — the same optical tier used in Hawke's flagship riflescope lineup — and incorporating a built-in laser rangefinder for distance measurement without requiring a separate handheld device. The series is designed for hunters, guides, and field shooters who need optical observation and ballistic distance data from a single instrument.

All Frontier LRF models feature the patented H7 prism system with beam split coating, fully multi-coated true colour optics with water-repellent lens coatings, a magnesium alloy chassis, IPX7 waterproofing, and an internal OLED display with adjustable brightness. The rangefinder system supports multiple measurement modes including horizontal distance compensation and specific hunting and environmental filter modes. The series is currently available in 8×42 in a standard black finish and in a distinctive green finish for hunters who prefer a more discreet field appearance.

About the Model (Hawke Frontier LRF 8x42 — Green)

The Hawke Frontier LRF 8x42 Green is a rangefinding binocular designed for hunters and field shooters who require a single, high-quality instrument for both optical observation and precise distance measurement in the field. The 8× magnification with a 42mm objective lens provides a field of view of 131 metres at 1,000 metres and an exit pupil of 5.3mm — well suited to the light conditions encountered during morning and evening hunting periods. The H7 optical system with the patented prism and wide-band fully multi-coated lenses delivers high colour accuracy and light transmission, and the apparent field of view of 60° provides a naturally immersive sight picture during extended glassing sessions.

The integrated laser rangefinder measures from 10 to 1,800 metres with ±1 metre accuracy across 6 operational modes: Standard, Horizontal Distance, Angle, Rain, Near, and Hunt — covering the full range of conditions and target priorities encountered in field hunting. Measured values are displayed on the internal OLED screen with 6 brightness levels, which auto-shuts off after 15 seconds of inactivity. The angle measurement range covers ±90°, allowing accurate horizontal distance compensation on steep mountain terrain.

The magnesium alloy chassis with rubber armour provides a strong, lightweight, grip-friendly platform that is nitrogen purged, fogproof, and sealed to IPX7 waterproof standard. The replaceable twist-up eyecups with click-stop positions accommodate both bare-eyed and eyeglass-wearing users. The close focus distance of 10.1 metres allows use for close-range identification when needed. The binocular is powered by a single CR2 battery for the rangefinder and display system. Weight is 999 g. The green finish provides a discreet visual profile in woodland and field hunting environments.

About Hawke

Hawke Optics is a British optics brand registered in England and Wales, with products distributed across Europe, North America, and international markets. The company produces a broad range of optical products including riflescopes, airgun scopes, crossbow scopes, red dot sights, reflex sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, and laser rangefinders, covering applications from hunting and precision shooting to nature observation and marine use.

Hawke organises its product lineup into distinct optical system tiers — from the entry-level H2 through H5 to the flagship H7 — with each tier reflecting the glass specification, coating technology, and feature level of the products within it. The Frontier series represents the H7 tier, Hawke's highest optical specification, and covers riflescopes, red dot sights, reflex sights, binoculars, rangefinding binoculars, spotting scopes, and laser rangefinders.
