Recknagel Rear Ring for Suhl-Claw Mount, 25.4 mm Product description

  • Traditional detachable design: Built for the Suhl claw mount system, this rear ring supports a classic quick-detach scope setup that can be removed and reinstalled as part of a properly fitted mount.
  • 25.4 mm ring diameter: Sized for 1 inch scope tubes, it suits many traditional hunting optics while keeping the installation matched to the tube diameter.
  • Steel construction: The steel body provides the rigidity and wear resistance expected in a mount component that must hold alignment under repeated use.
  • 0 MOA configuration: With no built-in inclination, this rear ring is appropriate for straightforward hunting-rifle setups where a neutral scope position is preferred.
  • Made in Germany: German manufacture reflects the precise machining and consistent fit that matter in a mount part intended for a hand-fitted claw-mount system.

About the Recknagel Suhl-Claw Mounts Series

Recknagel Suhl-Claw Mounts continue a mounting concept that was developed by gunsmiths in Suhl in the 1920s. The system belongs to the traditional side of hunting optics, where the mount is not treated as a generic accessory but as a fitted part of the rifle. Instead of relying on a standardized rail, a Suhl claw mount is made to suit the individual firearm, which is why it remains closely associated with classic sporting rifles and combination guns.

A defining feature of the series is its front hook and rear locking mechanism, which allow the scope to be detached and reattached as part of a properly fitted assembly. In practical use, that makes the system attractive to shooters who want the clean lines of a traditional rifle together with the convenience of removing the optic when needed. Recknagel keeps the series in production in several configurations, including versions for different scope-tube diameters and upper parts for certain manufacturer-specific rails. The result is a family of mounts aimed at hunters who value traditional craftsmanship, repeatable positioning, and a mounting style that suits classic European rifle design.

About the Recknagel Rear Ring for Suhl-Claw Mount, 25.4 mm

The Recknagel Rear Ring for Suhl-Claw Mount, 25.4 mm is a specialized rear ring for a traditional detachable scope-mount arrangement. It is intended for use with Suhl claw scope mounts and accepts optics with a 25.4 mm (1 inch) main tube, making it a relevant choice for classic hunting rifles fitted with traditional European-style mounting solutions. Because this is a rear ring rather than a complete mount, its role is precise and important: it forms the rear support point that helps the optic sit correctly within the fitted claw-mount system.

The use of steel construction is especially important in this type of component. A claw-mount setup depends on close tolerances, secure engagement, and long-term resistance to wear at the contact surfaces, so a steel rear ring is well suited to repeated installation and removal as part of a properly built assembly. The 0 MOA inclination keeps the setup neutral, which suits conventional hunting applications where the priority is a straightforward scope position rather than built-in elevation bias for long-range dialing.

This rear ring is also configured with no windage adjustment, which reflects the traditional design philosophy of many claw mounts: alignment is achieved through correct fitting of the mount system rather than through external adjustment at the ring itself. In practice, that makes this part most appropriate for carefully assembled, gunsmith-style mounting work where clean fit, mechanical security, and compatibility with a 1 inch riflescope tube matter more than modular field adjustment.

About Recknagel

Recknagel began with Adolf Recknagel, who started manufacturing firearm sights in 1867 in Albrechts, near Suhl, Thuringia. The company is known as a German specialist in firearm and riflescope mounting systems, sights, and hunting accessories, with a product range that also includes Picatinny rails, triggers, safeties, and hunting silencers. That background is directly relevant to products such as Suhl claw mount components, where precise machining and long experience with sporting-rifle hardware matter more than broad consumer-market styling.

Over time, Recknagel expanded its portfolio while staying closely tied to mounting technology. It introduced the ERATAC line of tactical mounts and accessories in 2010, showing the company’s reach across both traditional hunting and more modern tactical applications. Recknagel relocated from Schweinfurt to Bergrheinfeld in 2006, and in 2022 the company was acquired by Dr. Moritz Fehrer. Across these changes, the brand has remained strongly associated with German-made mounting solutions for rifles and optics.

Most common questions (Q&A)

Need help? Not sure about something? Don't hesitate - ask our community! Our experienced community is here to help you with this question.

Hello, I´d like to change my optics on older Merkel drilling with suhl-claw mount, to a new zeiss optics. Can this be done just by ordering Recknagel rear and front rings, which directly attach to the gun suhl mount base? In the picture I don't see any lever on the rear ring, which would free the optics. Anyhow, I need a quick take off, to be ready for the shotgun use. As an alternative, I'm not that eager to buy the picatinny base for shut-claw mount, but what is realistic so that it works?

With Suhl or German Claw mounts, there is some significant information of paramount importance that we have to share with you.

The majority of Suhl mounts were made by demand (a particular rifle combined with a particular riflescope) which means that there is an abundance of different configurations in terms of heights and dimensions.

We usually suggest that our customers find a very good gunsmith which will accommodate the customer with all the necessary information regarding the exact heights and dimensions which are required for the mount to work perfectly.

We would kindly ask the same of you. Please contact your gunsmith (in case you are not a gunsmith yourself) to confirm if the configuration which you are referring to will work with your rifle in practice.

Please note that we can order any sort of Suhl mounting compartments for you once you have all the necessary information.
