Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 .450 Bushmaster

• Custom .450 Bushmaster dial: the elevation dial is calibrated for the .450 Bushmaster cartridge, so holdover corrections are faster and more intuitive when shots stretch beyond typical woods distances.
• Versatile 3-9x magnification: low power keeps the sight picture easy to manage at closer ranges, while 9x gives enough precision for careful shot placement on game at longer distances.
• 40 mm objective with fully multicoated lenses: this combination helps maintain a bright, clear image and reduces distracting glare, which is especially useful during the first and last light periods when game is often active.
• Second focal plane Duplex reticle: the familiar Duplex layout stays visually consistent through the zoom range, giving a clean aiming point that is quick to pick up in the field.
• Waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction: the scope is built for hard hunting use, helping it stay dependable through rain, temperature changes, recoil, and rough transport.

About the Leupold VX-Freedom Series

Leupold introduced the VX-Freedom series in 2018 as a budget-conscious hunting riflescope line for shooters who wanted dependable field performance without moving into the company’s more specialized premium ranges. The series covers rimfire, muzzleloader, and centerfire applications, which makes it one of the broader hunting families in Leupold’s catalog and a practical fit for everything from small-game rifles to common deer setups.

A defining feature of the line is Leupold’s Twilight Light Management System, developed to manage glare and support visibility in low-light conditions where contrast and target definition matter most. VX-Freedom models are also built around a straightforward hunting design philosophy: useful magnification ranges, familiar reticle options, and mechanical layouts that favor reliability and ease of use over unnecessary complexity. Across the series, Leupold offers multiple configurations, including models with different reticles and versions equipped with the Custom Dial System. The result is a riflescope family that stays focused on practical hunting optics, with waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof construction as a consistent part of the package.

About the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 .450 Bushmaster

The Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 .450 Bushmaster is tailored for hunters using the .450 Bushmaster cartridge and wanting a scope that matches the way that rifle is typically used in the field. Its 3-9x magnification range is a classic choice for stalking and general big-game hunting: 3x gives a broad, manageable view for closer opportunities in brush or broken woodland, while 9x provides the extra precision needed when the shot opens up across a field edge or cut line. The 40 mm objective keeps the scope trim and easy to mount while still delivering enough image brightness for common dawn and dusk hunting periods.

What sets this model apart is its custom engraved dial calibrated for .450 Bushmaster, which simplifies elevation correction for that cartridge and makes the scope more useful at extended distances than a standard hunting setup. The Duplex reticle in the second focal plane keeps the aiming picture uncluttered and familiar, which suits fast target acquisition on game and avoids distracting the eye with a busy holdover pattern. A fast-focus eyepiece helps bring the reticle into sharp focus quickly, while the generous 93.00 mm to 106.00 mm eye relief supports comfortable shooting on a hard-recoiling straight-wall rifle. With a 25.4 mm tube, capped-style hunting profile, fixed 100 m parallax, and waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction, this riflescope stays focused on practical reliability for real hunting conditions.

About Leupold

Leupold & Volpel was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1907 by Fred Leupold and Adam Volpel. The company later introduced its first riflescope, the Plainsman in 1947, establishing the product category that remains central to its reputation today. In 1962, Leupold introduced the Duplex reticle, a design that became widely recognized for combining a fast outer aiming structure with a finer central aiming point. The company moved its manufacturing plant and headquarters to Beaverton, Oregon, in 1968.

Today, Leupold & Stevens, Inc. remains a family-owned American optics manufacturer focused on hunting, shooting, and outdoor use. Its product range includes riflescopes, red dot sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders, and thermal optics. Within riflescopes, the company is especially known for its VX-series hunting optics and Mark-series tactical scopes, giving it a strong presence across both sporting and professional shooting applications.
