Leupold SX-2 Alpine HD 20-60x60 Angled Gen2 Product description

  • 20-60x zoom range: The wide magnification span lets this spotting scope move from broad area scanning at 20x to close inspection at 60x, which is useful for locating game, checking impacts, or reading terrain details without changing optics.
  • 60 mm HD optical system: The compact objective keeps weight and bulk manageable while the HD-focused design improves clarity, contrast, and color, making long glassing sessions less fatiguing in the field or at the range.
  • 45° angled eyepiece: The angled viewing position is more comfortable when glassing uphill, sharing the scope with other users, or working from a seated tripod position for extended observation.
  • Magnesium housing: A magnesium body helps keep the scope durable without unnecessary weight, which matters when carrying a spotting scope over distance or packing it with other hunting optics.
  • Waterproof and fogproof construction: Sealed, weather-resistant construction keeps the optic usable through rain, cold mornings, and rapid temperature changes, so visibility stays consistent when conditions are less than ideal.

About the Leupold SX-2 Alpine HD Series

The Leupold SX-2 Alpine HD series sits in the brand’s spotting-scope range as a practical field optic for hunters and shooters who need dependable magnification, solid image quality, and a build that travels well. Leupold announced the SX-2 Alpine HD line on September 23, 2020, and the current Gen 2 lineup includes angled 60 mm and 80 mm models, giving users a choice between easier packability and greater objective size.

The series is built around high-definition optics and a rugged chassis intended for use both on the range and in demanding outdoor conditions. In Leupold’s spotting-scope lineup, the SX-2 Alpine HD focuses on practical observation rather than maximum size or specialist competition features, which makes it well suited to general hunting, target spotting, and terrain evaluation. The design emphasizes dependable field handling, weather resistance, and useful magnification ranges for real-world glassing. Earlier SX-2 Alpine HD models used DiamondCoat lens coatings and Guard-ion to help maintain image quality and shed water and dirt, reinforcing the series’ role as a durable all-around spotting scope for regular outdoor use.

About the Leupold SX-2 Alpine HD 20-60x60 Angled Gen2

The Leupold SX-2 Alpine HD 20-60x60 Angled Gen2 is the more compact of the current SX-2 Alpine HD Gen 2 spotting scopes, pairing a 20-60x magnification range with a 60 mm objective lens for users who want useful reach without stepping up to a larger, heavier observation optic. That balance makes it especially suitable for mountain hunting, range work, and general field observation where pack space and tripod weight matter.

At lower magnification, the scope offers a wider view for locating animals, spotting movement, or scanning target lines efficiently. At higher magnification, it gives the extra detail needed to judge antlers, inspect bullet impacts, or study distant terrain features more closely. The 45° angled eyepiece improves comfort during long sessions behind the glass, particularly when viewing uphill or when several users of different heights are sharing one tripod setup. Eye relief of 16.70–19.50 mm also helps maintain a comfortable viewing position.

The magnesium housing keeps the scope robust while limiting carry weight to 1700.00 g, and the waterproof, fogproof construction supports reliable use in wet weather and changing temperatures. A close focus distance of 10.00 m adds flexibility for shorter-range observation, while tripod adaptability makes the scope easier to stabilize at higher magnifications, where image steadiness becomes critical for reading fine detail.

About Leupold

Leupold & Volpel was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1907 by Fred Leupold and Adam Volpel. The company later became Leupold & Stevens, Inc. and is now headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, United States. It remains a family-owned company focused on sport optics for hunting, shooting, and outdoor use.

Leupold’s product range includes riflescopes, red dot sights, binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders, and thermal optics. The company introduced its first riflescope, the Plainsman, in 1947, and later introduced the Duplex reticle in 1962, a design that became widely recognized in sporting optics. This long involvement in field and shooting optics helps explain Leupold’s strong reputation for practical designs that prioritize durability, optical usability, and straightforward operation in hunting and observation equipment.
