Kowa BD II XD 8x32

• Ultra-wide field of view: The 154.00 m/1000m view makes it easier to pick up moving birds, scan woodland edges, and follow subjects without feeling restricted by a narrow image.
• Kowa XD objective lenses: XD glass helps reduce color fringing and keeps fine detail cleaner at high-contrast edges, which is especially useful when watching birds against bright sky or water.
• Compact 8x32 format: With 8x magnification, a 32.00 mm objective, and a weight of 540.00 g, this binocular balances reach, brightness, and portability for long walks and day-long field use.
• Close focus performance: A 1.30 m close-focus distance lets the binocular handle nearby subjects such as butterflies, plants, and feeder birds without needing to step back.
• Weather-ready construction: Waterproof, fogproof, and nitrogen-filled construction helps maintain a clear view when conditions change from warm vehicles to cold mornings or damp trails.

About the Kowa BDII XD Series

The Kowa BDII XD series is built around one clear idea: giving users a genuinely wide-angle binocular in a compact, field-ready format. The range conforms to ISO 14132-2, and it is aimed at users who want an expansive image for birding, hiking, general wildlife observation, and even casual astronomy. Across the line, Kowa offers several configurations, including 6.5x32, 8x32, 10x32, 8x42, and 10x42, so users can choose between maximum field of view, more reach, or a larger objective for lower-light work.

Every model in the series uses Kowa XD (ED) objective lenses, which are designed to improve resolution and suppress distracting chromatic aberration. The series also features KR-coated lenses to help repel dirt and fluid, a practical advantage for binoculars that spend time outdoors in rain, dust, and frequent handling. Mechanically, the BDII XD family combines a magnesium-alloy chassis, rubber armor, waterproof construction, and dry nitrogen filling, giving the binoculars the durability expected for regular field use. Shared details such as an aluminum focus wheel, twist-up eyecups, and diopter adjustment complete a design that prioritizes easy handling and long viewing comfort.

About the Kowa BD II XD 8x32

The Kowa BD II XD 8x32 is the model in the series that combines a very wide image with the steady, easy-to-use character of 8x magnification. That makes it especially well suited to bird watching, hiking, and general wildlife observation, where a broad view helps locate subjects quickly and maintain awareness of movement around them. Its 32.00 mm objective lenses keep the binocular compact enough for regular carry, while the 4.00 mm exit pupil provides a comfortable viewing experience in daylight and mixed light.

One of the defining traits of this model is its 154.00 m/1000m field of view. In practical use, that wide image helps when tracking birds in flight, scanning reedbeds, or following animals moving through cover. The 16.50 mm eye relief also supports more comfortable viewing for many eyeglass wearers, while the 1.30 m close focus adds versatility for nearby observation of insects, flowers, and other close subjects.

Optically, the binocular pairs XD objective lenses with fully multicoated optics and a Roof - Schmidt/Pechan prism system to deliver a bright, sharp image in a trim body. The central focusing system allows quick adjustment as viewing distances change, and the right-eye diopter helps fine-tune the image to the user. With its single-hinge body, 540.00 g weight, and waterproof, fogproof nitrogen-filled construction, this is a compact binocular designed for active field use rather than occasional carry.

About Kowa

Kowa’s origins date to 1894, when Hattori Kanesaburo Wholesale Store was founded in Nagoya, Japan. The company entered optical equipment manufacturing in 1946, beginning with spectacle lenses and opera glasses, and it later changed its name to Kowa Company, Ltd. in 1960. Today, Kowa Company, Ltd. remains headquartered in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.

In sporting optics, Kowa is particularly known for binoculars and spotting scopes, including the PROMINAR line. The company’s optical reputation is closely tied to its use of advanced lens materials, including pure fluorite crystal in PROMINAR products and XD optical elements in binoculars such as the BDII XD series. Kowa also has a long history in observation optics: it released Japan’s first spotting scopes, the TS-1 and TS-2, in 1952, and Kowa spotting scopes were selected as official equipment for shooting events at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
