Hawke Endurance ED Marine 7x42 Product description

  • 7× Magnification in a Single-Tube Marine Monocular Format: The 7× magnification is the standard recommendation for marine optics, providing a stable hand-held image on a moving vessel where the combined motion of waves and vessel movement makes higher magnification difficult to use effectively. The monocular format delivers the marine-optimised optical specification of the Endurance ED Marine range in a significantly lighter and more compact single-tube design — at just 405 g and 80 mm wide × 159 mm high — suited to sailors and boaters who prefer a single monocular over a full binocular.
  • Integrated Compass with Rangefinder Reticle — Compass Variant Only: The Compass variant (art. no. 36521) incorporates a built-in integrated compass that projects a bearing display into the field of view, allowing the user to read their heading or the bearing to any observed object without breaking observation. A rangefinder reticle is also visible in the field of view for distance estimation. The compass is optimised for northern hemisphere latitudes (Europe and USA). The standard 7×42 (art. no. 36520) omits the compass and rangefinder reticle. Both variants weigh 405 g.
  • 42mm Objective Lens with 6mm Exit Pupil and ED Glass: The 42mm objective lens at 7× magnification produces a 6mm exit pupil — supporting good image brightness in the variable and reduced-light marine environment during overcast conditions and low-light periods. The Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass reduces chromatic aberration and colour fringing for a clean, neutrally rendered image on the high-contrast subjects encountered at sea. The phase corrected BAK-4 roof prism and fully multi-coated lenses maintain resolution and contrast across the full aperture.
  • Floating Wrist Strap — Essential for Marine Use: Both variants are supplied with a floating wrist strap — keeping the monocular buoyant on the water surface if accidentally dropped overboard. Note that the marine monoculars use a wrist strap rather than the neck strap supplied with the marine binoculars — more practical for single-handed monocular use on deck. The field of view of 131 metres at 1,000 metres and 17mm of eye relief support comfortable scanning on open water.
  • Waterproof, Fogproof with Tripod Thread and Stay-On Covers: The body is nitrogen purged, waterproof, and fogproof with the distinctive blue high-grip rubber exterior of the Endurance ED Marine range. A built-in ¼"-20 UNC tripod mounting thread enables use on a vessel mount or chart table holder. Stay-on objective lens covers remain attached during use. Close focus distance of 2 metres covers close-range identification when needed.

About the Endurance ED Marine Series

The Hawke Endurance ED Marine series is Hawke's dedicated marine optics range, built on the H5 optical system with Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass and phase corrected BAK-4 roof prisms configured for marine and boating use. All models feature 7× magnification, ED glass, phase correction, full waterproofing, floating straps, and the distinctive blue rubber-armoured finish.

The monocular sub-series covers two configurations — the 7×42 (art. no. 36520) without compass and the 7×42 Compass (art. no. 36521) with integrated compass and rangefinder reticle — providing a lightweight single-tube alternative to the binocular models for mariners and boaters who prefer a compact monocular format for on-water observation.

About the Model (Hawke Endurance ED Marine 7x42 Monocular)

The Hawke Endurance ED Marine 7x42 Monocular is a purpose-built marine monocular designed for sailors, coastal walkers, anglers, and boaters who require the optical quality and marine-specific features of the Endurance ED Marine range in a single-tube format. The 7× magnification with a 42mm objective lens delivers a field of view of 131 metres at 1,000 metres, an exit pupil of 6mm, and an apparent field of view of 53° in a package that weighs just 405 g — significantly lighter than any binocular in the Marine lineup.

The ED glass reduces chromatic aberration and colour fringing for a clean image in the high-contrast marine environment, while the phase corrected BAK-4 roof prism and fully multi-coated lenses maintain resolution and contrast. The close focus distance of 2 metres extends usability to close-range targets. The 17mm of eye relief and twist-up eyecup with position stops accommodate both bare-eyed and eyeglass-wearing users.

The Compass variant (art. no. 36521) adds a built-in integrated compass and rangefinder reticle visible in the field of view — enabling heading reading and distance estimation without breaking observation. The compass is optimised for northern hemisphere latitudes. Both variants weigh identically at 405 g and share all optical and mechanical specifications. Both are supplied with a floating wrist strap and stay-on lens covers. The built-in ¼"-20 UNC tripod mounting thread supports use on a vessel mount. The body is nitrogen purged, waterproof, and fogproof with a blue high-grip rubber exterior. Dimensions are 80 mm wide × 159 mm high.
