Canon 10x42L IS WP Product description

  • Optical Image Stabilization: Canon’s Vari-Angle Prism system reduces visible hand shake, making a 10x view easier to hold steady for birding, marine observation, travel and long sessions of glassing without a tripod.
  • L-series 42 mm optics: The large objective lenses and Canon’s L-series optical design help deliver a bright, high-contrast image with better control of color fringing, which is especially useful in difficult light and against high-contrast backgrounds.
  • Waterproof all-weather construction: The IPX-4-rated body, nitrogen filling and fogproof build support reliable use in rain, spray and changing temperatures, so the binocular remains practical for outdoor field use.
  • Wide field with comfortable eye relief: A 114.00 m/1000m field of view and 16.00 mm eye relief make it easier to follow moving subjects while still giving eyeglass wearers a more usable viewing position.
  • Close focus and central focusing: With a 2.50 m close focus distance and a central focusing system, the binocular adapts well from nearby detail to distant subjects, which suits wildlife observation as well as general-purpose outdoor viewing.

About the Canon Stabilized Binoculars Series

Canon Stabilized Binoculars are built around the idea that a steadier image reveals more detail than magnification alone. Canon reentered the binocular market in 1995 with the 12 x 36 IS, introducing a Vari-Angle Prism system designed to compensate for hand shake and make handheld observation more effective. That approach still defines the series today.

The range covers compact, medium-range and high-magnification designs, giving the series a broader role than conventional binocular lines. Depending on the model, the family serves birdwatching, wildlife viewing, concerts, sports, travel and astronomy, with some versions prioritizing portability and others adding all-weather or waterproof construction for more demanding outdoor use. Across the lineup, the distinguishing feature is Canon’s stabilization technology, which helps users hold detail on target for longer and reduces the fatigue that often comes with prolonged handheld viewing. In practice, the series sits apart from standard binoculars by combining familiar optical formats with an electronic stabilization system that is especially useful when fine detail matters.

About the Canon 10x42L IS WP

The Canon 10x42L IS WP is the all-weather model in Canon’s stabilized binocular range, pairing a practical 10x magnification with a full-size 42.00 mm objective and a waterproof housing. That combination makes it well suited to birding, coastal observation, travel, wildlife watching and other outdoor use where a conventional 10x binocular often shows too much hand movement to fully exploit its resolving power.

Its defining advantage is the combination of Vari-Angle Prism image stabilization and a +/- 0.8° correction angle. In real use, that means the image settles quickly, fine detail is easier to study, and prolonged handheld viewing is less tiring than with a non-stabilized binocular of similar power. The 10x format gives more reach than an 8x binocular while still remaining versatile for general observation, and the 114.00 m/1000m field of view keeps the image open enough for scanning and following moving subjects.

Optically, the 4.20 mm exit pupil supports a bright, comfortable view in mixed light, while the fully multicoated lenses help maintain contrast and reduce distracting reflections. The Porro prism layout contributes to a spacious image impression, and the 16.00 mm eye relief is helpful for users who observe with glasses. A 2.50 m close focus adds flexibility for nearby subjects, and the central focusing system keeps operation simple and fast. With nitrogen filling, fogproof construction and an IPX-4 waterproof rating, this binocular is built for regular outdoor use rather than occasional fair-weather viewing.

About Canon

Canon Inc. was founded on August 10, 1937, in Japan, after beginning as the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory established in Roppongi, Tokyo, in 1933. The company is headquartered in Ota-ku, Tokyo and has long worked across multiple optical categories, including cameras, interchangeable lenses, binoculars and broadcast television lenses.

In binoculars, Canon is especially known for applying its optical and electronic expertise to Image Stabilizer technology, including the Vari-Angle Prism system used in its stabilized models. Canon returned to the binocular market in 1995 after a 34-year hiatus, and its modern binocular range remains closely associated with handheld image stabilization rather than conventional mechanical designs alone. That background makes Canon particularly relevant in stabilized binoculars, where optical quality and electronic correction need to work together in a practical field instrument.

The most Beautiful Versatile Addictive Optical Instrument I own

To be clear I've owned over 100 binoculars many well know classic collector items in the past 40yrs as a hobby, nature lover, now birdwatcher and stargazer/sun watcher, and now at 61yrs of age I stood with the Leica Ultravid HD+ 12x50, the Leica Noctivid 8x42 green, the Zeiss Conquest 15x56 HD, the Nikon SP 10x70 binoculars which I use all the time for different purposes still fascinated every time I look through them, which comes to this, a few months ago I walked into B&H store returning a set of binoculars, I remember the canon 10x42 l IS WP binoculars from Scope views reviews which I found odd and interesting but never though much of it UNTIL I saw it on the shelf and asked the salesman to see them and when he handed them to me LO AND BEHOLD, I FELL IN LOVE, first holding them beholding them up close then looking through them, F'in WOW!! then pressing the IS button that was it, I HAVE TO GET THIS AWESOME OPTICAL Instrument, sold some binoculars and other stuff and $1400 later I have The most Beautiful Versatile Addictive Optical Instrument I've ever owned, this STAR TREK STAR WARS type binoculars which feels like holding a fine Canon camera packs the same ultra-sharp Resolution , vivid, bright, wide, and very flat field to the edges views as the Leica, Zeiss, and the Nikon SP, but the difference here is the Canons versatility and very Addictive views, right now as much as I love my other binoculars, these are my absolute favorite and no tripod needed. The perfect all around glass for me at least.
