Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12x40

• 4-12x magnification range: This zoom span covers the practical middle ground for hunting rifles, giving a wide enough view for closer shots while still providing the precision needed for careful placement at longer distances.
• 40 mm objective lens: The objective size balances light gathering with a trim overall profile, helping the scope stay manageable on a stalking rifle while maintaining a bright, usable image in low light.
• Second focal plane reticle: An SFP layout keeps the reticle visually consistent as magnification changes, which many hunters prefer because the aiming pattern remains easy to see at both low and high power.
• Fully multicoated optics: Multi-layer coatings improve light transmission and contrast, making it easier to separate game from shadowed backgrounds and pick out detail during the first and last minutes of legal light.
• Waterproof, fogproof and shockproof construction: The sealed and durable build helps the scope stay dependable through rain, temperature changes and recoil, reducing the chance of lost zero or a fogged internal image in the field.

About the Bushnell Trophy XLT Series

The Bushnell Trophy XLT series is a hunting-focused riflescope line built around practical magnification ranges and straightforward field use. Bushnell’s 2023 catalog listed the series with limited channel availability, and the lineup included familiar hunting formats such as 3-9x40, 3-9x50 and 4-12x40. That spread places the series in the traditional centerfire hunting category, where a scope needs to handle everything from woodland stalking to more deliberate shots across open ground.

A defining feature of the family is the DOA Quick Ballistic reticle, which Bushnell described with five drop points and 5 mph wind-hold references. Bushnell also stated that this reticle can be matched to typical hunting cartridges for use out to 500 yards, giving the series a clear emphasis on real hunting holdovers rather than target-style dialing. The Trophy XLT line was also described as offering low-light performance and resolution, supported by RainGuard HD lens coating in the catalog. In practical use, that combination suits hunters who want a conventional riflescope with useful ballistic references, dependable image quality and a design that stays simple under field conditions.

About the Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12x40

The Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12x40 is a versatile hunting riflescope that suits rifles used across mixed terrain, where shot distances can change quickly from woodland edges to open fields. Its 4-12x magnification range gives it more reach than a basic 3-9x hunting optic while still remaining practical for general stalking and stand hunting. At the lower end, the scope stays manageable for quicker target acquisition; at the upper end, it offers the extra image scale needed for more precise shot placement on smaller vital zones or more distant game.

The 40.00 mm objective lens keeps the scope compact and helps maintain a balanced rifle setup, while the fully multicoated lenses support better contrast and light transmission in subdued conditions. That matters most when animals appear against dark timber, brush or uneven backgrounds, where image clarity often matters more than raw magnification alone. The second focal plane reticle remains the same apparent size throughout the zoom range, so the sight picture stays familiar as magnification changes. Because the reticle is non-illuminated, the scope keeps a simple, battery-free configuration that many hunters value for reliability.

This model uses capped turrets, a practical choice for a field rifle because the settings are protected against accidental movement while the rifle is carried through brush or in and out of a vehicle. With 60.00 MOA of elevation and windage adjustment, it offers enough adjustment range for normal hunting zeroing. A fixed 91,44 m parallax setting also reflects its intended role: fast, uncomplicated use at common hunting distances without extra controls to manage. The 25.4 mm tube, 325.00 mm length and 470.00 g weight keep the scope in the classic one-inch hunting format, making it a sensible fit for lightweight and traditional sporting rifles.

About Bushnell

Bushnell was founded in 1948 by Dave Bushnell, who began selling optical products from a photographic shop in Pasadena, California. The company built its reputation around accessible, field-oriented sports optics and today covers a broad range of outdoor categories including binoculars, riflescopes, red dot sights, rangefinders, spotting scopes and trail cameras. That breadth matters in a riflescope line such as the Trophy XLT, because Bushnell’s design approach is rooted in practical use across hunting, target shooting and general outdoor observation.

Within its lineup, Bushnell includes well-known families such as Legend, Prime, Elite Tactical and AR Optics. The brand is also associated with proprietary optical technologies such as EXO Barrier, a coating developed to repel water, oil, dust and debris. Bushnell specializes in sports optics and outdoor products for activities including hunting, target shooting, birding and nature observation, giving the company long-standing experience in balancing optical performance, durability and straightforward operation.
