Bresser Pirsch ED 8x56 Binoculars Product description

  • ED glass optics: Extra-low-dispersion glass helps reduce color fringing and improves color fidelity, which makes fine detail easier to separate against dark woodland backgrounds and in difficult twilight light.
  • 8x56 low-light format: The combination of 8x magnification and a 56 mm objective delivers a large 7.00 mm exit pupil, giving a bright, relaxed view that suits dawn, dusk, and other low-light observation.
  • Roof prism design with full coatings: The Schmidt/Pechan roof prisms and fully multicoated optics keep the binocular compact while supporting good contrast and light transmission for general field use.
  • Argon-purged waterproof housing: The sealed, fogproof construction with argon filling helps the binocular stay clear when moving between temperatures or using it in wet weather.
  • Long eye relief and open-bridge handling: With 19.67 mm eye relief, right-eye diopter adjustment, and an open-bridge body, the binocular is easier to hold steadily and remains comfortable for extended viewing, including for many eyeglass wearers.

About the Bresser Pirsch Series

The Bresser Pirsch series is built as an all-round binocular family for travel, hiking, and hunting, combining a compact roof-prism layout with field-oriented durability. Within the range, BRESSER offers both standard Pirsch models and Pirsch ED versions, giving users a choice between a straightforward general-purpose optic and a more refined image with extra-low-dispersion glass. Across the series, the focus is on practical outdoor use rather than specialist bulk: a slim roof-prism form, rubber-armoured housings, and gas-purged waterproof construction make these binoculars easy to carry and dependable in changing weather.

BRESSER describes the series with phase-coated prisms and fully multi-coated lenses, while Pirsch ED models add ED glass, dielectric prism coating, and argon purging. In practice, that means the series is aimed at users who want a binocular that can move between woodland walks, travel, wildlife observation, and hunting without feeling overly specialized. Adjustable eyecups support comfortable viewing for eyeglass wearers, and the range covers several size classes, from more compact daytime models to larger low-light configurations such as 8x56. The result is a series positioned as a versatile outdoor optic with a clear emphasis on portability, weather resistance, and dependable image quality.

About the Bresser Pirsch ED 8x56 Binoculars

The Bresser Pirsch ED 8x56 Binoculars are configured for users who need a bright, steady image in poor light. The 8x56 format is a classic choice for hunting binoculars and low-light binoculars because it balances moderate magnification with strong light-gathering ability. At 8x, image shake is easier to control than with higher magnifications, which helps when glassing by hand for long periods. The 56.00 mm objective lenses and 7.00 mm exit pupil support a bright, relaxed view at dawn, dusk, and under dense cover, where smaller binoculars begin to lose image brightness.

This model also stands out within the Pirsch family through its ED glass and coated roof-prism system. In practical use, that means cleaner edges around high-contrast subjects, more natural color reproduction, and better separation of detail when scanning dark terrain, tree lines, or animals against mixed backgrounds. The Schmidt/Pechan roof prisms keep the body slimmer than a comparable Porro design, while the 113.93 m/1000m field of view remains wide enough for locating moving subjects efficiently.

Handling is equally field-oriented. The open-bridge metal housing gives a secure grip, the central focusing system allows quick adjustment, and the 19.67 mm eye relief is well suited to extended observation and eyeglass use. With argon filling, waterproof construction, and fogproof performance, the binocular remains usable when temperatures shift or weather turns damp. At 981.00 g and 166.00 mm long, it is substantial enough to feel stable in the hands while still remaining practical for mobile use in the field.

About Bresser

Bresser was founded in 1957 by Josef Bresser in Germany and has long focused on optical equipment for both outdoor observation and scientific use. The company is headquartered in Rhede, Germany, and its product range covers telescopes, binoculars, microscopes, and outdoor optics. That broad background is relevant here because it shows a manufacturer with experience not only in sports optics, but also in precision optical instruments more generally.

The company changed ownership in 1999, when Rolf Bresser sold it to Meade Instruments Corp., and in 2009 Bresser GmbH was acquired by Rolf Bresser, Jinghua Precision Optics, and managing director Helmut Ebbert. In later years, Bresser expanded its outdoor line further, adding trail cameras and rangefinders in 2011. This mix of long-standing optics experience and a broad catalogue has helped establish Bresser as a familiar European name in accessible field optics, including binoculars designed for hunting, travel, and general nature observation.

 Hello,
I found your webpage through youtube and I'm interested in buying a pair of binoculars for astronomy use. I don't want to use a tripod, so I'm mainly interested in something with low magnification and as high aperture as possible. In the video you said that the roof design transmits less light than the porro, so I wonder if the 8x56 Bresser Pirch that you have under your astronomy category would be good for this purpose?

Also, the only difference I found between the Bresser Pirsch 8x56 and the Bresser Pirsch ED 8x56 was that the latter is filled with argon, how big of a difference would this make for astronomy use?

Kind regards,

by Carl

The difference between these two models is the quality of the coatings, which are better than the ED model. Supposedly, ED lenses and coatings provide a better light transmission rate than conventional ones. For astronomy use, such a feature would have a significant meaning in terms of longer-lasting twilight observations.

Hello, I am very interested in ordering a pair of the Bresser Pirsch 8x56 ED binoculars from you at some point in the next few weeks, and I have some questions regarding them. First and foremost, is your statement that they will not be available for shipment for approximately two weeks. As such -- and considering the worldwide lack of availability of optical products in general, due to the covid pandemic -- would your advice be for me to withhold placing my order until you actually do have them in stock? If so... would it be possible for you to e-mail me when they are available from you for shipment? I live in California, USA. Secondly... the listed specification for the minimum IPD (Inter-Pupilary Distance) for the Pirsch 8x56 EDs is 60mm... but I read one review of them which stated that the measured IPD was actually 65mm. Would it be possible for you to physically measure the actual minimum IPD for me? My own IPD is exactly 60mm, so my concern is that the realistic IPD of the 8x56 EDs might be too large for my ability to use them. Thank you very much for any clarification you might be able to provide. I truly look forward to doing busines with you! Very Best Regards, Terry

Unfortunately, we do not order this product for stock so we would advise you to place an order and we will get it in our warehouse in approximately 2 weeks. We also can not measure the IPD since the product is not in stock. However, the manufacturer claims that the minimal IPD distance is 60mm, and the maximal is 72mm.
