Alpen Optics Teton 8x42 ED Product description

  • 8x42 configuration: The combination of 8x magnification and a 42 mm objective gives a steady, versatile view that works well for hunting, bird watching, and general field observation.
  • ED optical design: Extra-low dispersion glass helps reduce color fringing and improves contrast, which makes fine detail easier to separate against branches, brush, and uneven backgrounds.
  • 95% light transmission: High transmission supports a bright image in overcast weather, woodland shade, and the first and last minutes of legal light, when lower-quality binoculars often look dull.
  • Magnesium waterproof body: The magnesium housing keeps weight under control while adding durability, and the waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction helps the binocular stay reliable in rain, cold mornings, and changing temperatures.
  • Wide field of view: A 131.00 m/1000m field of view makes it easier to scan terrain and follow moving wildlife without constantly repositioning the binocular.

About the Teton Series

The Alpen Optics Teton series sits in the brand’s binocular range as a practical field line built for users who want dependable outdoor optics with a strong balance of brightness, handling, and durability. Within the Alpen lineup, the series is aimed at general-purpose observation, especially for hunting binoculars and all-round nature use where a binocular must be easy to carry, quick to deploy, and comfortable over long sessions. The Teton concept focuses on straightforward, usable performance rather than unnecessary complexity.

In use, the series emphasizes a combination of mid-size objective lenses, weather-resistant construction, and field-friendly ergonomics. That makes Teton binoculars well suited to scanning woodland edges, open country, and mixed terrain where both image stability and a useful field of view matter. The design philosophy is practical: a robust chassis, central focusing for fast adjustment, and optical features intended to support contrast and image brightness in real outdoor conditions. In the Alpen family, the Teton name is associated with binoculars that prioritize reliable viewing performance and durable construction for users who need one binocular to cover several roles well.

About the Alpen Optics Teton 8x42 ED

The Alpen Optics Teton 8x42 ED is built around one of the most versatile binocular formats available. 8x magnification provides enough reach for wildlife observation and glassing across fields or woodland margins, while remaining easier to hold steady than higher-power binoculars. Paired with a 42.00 mm objective lens, it delivers a bright, balanced image that works across a wide range of daylight conditions. The 5.25 mm exit pupil also helps maintain a relaxed view, which is useful during long observation sessions and in subdued light.

Its optical layout is supported by ED glass and fully multicoated lenses, a combination that helps preserve contrast and reduce distracting color fringing around high-contrast subjects such as birds against bright sky or game moving through broken cover. The stated 95 % light transmission underlines its focus on image brightness, while the 131.00 m/1000m field of view gives the binocular a broad, easy-scanning image that suits moving subjects and general terrain assessment.

Mechanically, the binocular is designed for practical field use. The magnesium body offers a durable structure without unnecessary bulk, and the waterproof, fogproof, nitrogen-filled construction supports reliable use in wet weather and rapid temperature changes. A central focusing system allows quick adjustment as viewing distances change, while the 3.00 m close focus keeps the binocular useful for nearby detail as well as longer-range observation. Tripod adaptability adds flexibility for prolonged glassing from a fixed position.

About Alpen Optics

Alpen Optics was founded by Tim Gardner in December 1996, and the company introduced its first products in 1997. Its history identifies Rancho Cucamonga, California, as headquarters, and the brand has long focused on outdoor observation and shooting-related optics. Alpen Optics produces binoculars, spotting scopes, riflescopes, and thermal optics, giving it a broad presence across sporting and field-use categories.

The brand’s binocular range includes lines such as Apex XP, Teton, and Rainier, each aimed at different levels of optical performance and application. In 2018, Explore Scientific acquired Alpen Optics’ trademarks and designs, continuing the brand under new ownership. Across its binocular products, Alpen has used technologies such as specialized prism systems and advanced lens coatings, reflecting a consistent emphasis on practical image quality and durable field construction.

Hello there,
between Teton ED and Black Tusk (8x42mm) which has superior picture quality and higher lens resolution from the other ?
thanks

P.S. it's weird black tusk has 94% and teton only 92% light transmission despite the abbe prisms....!

by Greg

Dear Sir!

Alpen Optics Teton ED are bigger, heavier, and brighter in low light due to the prism design. However, the Black Tusk are smaller and lighter and offer a better field of view. For stalking in the maountains go with Black Tusk 8x42, for hunting of roe and red dear, go with Teton HD.
