Dentler Base rail BASIS - Sako 85 S Product description

  • Firearm-specific fit: This BASIS base rail is machined for the Sako 85 S platform and related actions, giving the mounting system a precise interface that avoids improvised fitting work and supports repeatable alignment.
  • Modular BASIS interface: The rail forms the rifle-side foundation of the Dentler BASIS system, so one compatible optic mounting rail can be moved between suitable rifles with a consistent locking concept.
  • Steel construction: Made from steel, the base rail is built for the stresses of field use and repeated mounting cycles, which matters on hunting rifles that are carried often and expected to hold zero securely.
  • Low 7.00 mm build height: The 7.00 mm BH height helps keep the optic close to the bore line, supporting a compact setup and a natural head position behind the scope.
  • Matte black finish: The black matte surface keeps reflections subdued and matches modern hunting rifle setups, which is useful when equipment needs to stay visually discreet in the field.

About the BASIS Series

The Dentler BASIS series is a modular riflescope mounting system developed for hunting firearms that use a firearm-specific base rail combined with an interchangeable optic mounting rail. Within the Dentler lineup, BASIS is the core platform for shooters who want a clean, repeatable way to pair one rifle with different optics or move a compatible optic assembly between suitable rifles. The system is built around a base rail that stays on the firearm and a separate upper mounting rail that remains attached to the optic.

A defining characteristic of the series is its emphasis on repeatable optic changes and a secure mechanical interface. Dentler designs the lower rail to match the individual firearm model, while the upper side remains compatible with BASIS mounting rails for different optic footprints. The series is aimed mainly at hunting optics users who may alternate between day scopes, red dot sights or other sighting solutions depending on the season and hunting style. Dentler also builds the system around steel components and a practical locking concept, prioritizing durability, stable engagement and straightforward handling rather than unnecessary bulk.

About the Dentler Base rail BASIS - Sako 85 S

The Dentler Base rail BASIS - Sako 85 S is the rifle-side component that adapts the BASIS system to the Sako 85 S and the other listed compatible actions. Its role is simple but important: it creates the exact interface that allows a compatible Dentler upper mounting rail to lock onto the rifle in a controlled, repeatable way. For hunters who use different optics for different conditions, that modular approach is more practical than treating every rifle and optic as a fixed combination.

This model uses a steel body, which suits a mounting part that must resist recoil forces, transport wear and repeated installation cycles over time. The 7.00 mm build height keeps the base relatively low, helping preserve a tidy sight line and reducing unnecessary height between rifle and optic. In practice, that can support a more natural cheek weld and a more balanced overall setup, especially on traditional hunting rifles.

The matte black finish gives the rail a subdued appearance that fits modern sporting and hunting rifles without adding glare. Because the rail is made specifically for the Sako action pattern it supports, installation starts from a geometry intended for that receiver rather than from a universal compromise. As part of the wider BASIS ecosystem, it is best suited to shooters who value a robust mounting foundation and the flexibility to use compatible Dentler optic rails across more than one setup.

About Dentler

Dentler Jagdwaffen was founded in 2011 by Daniel Dentler. Based in Leutkirch im Allgäu, Germany, the company focuses on modular riflescope mounting systems for hunting firearms rather than general shooting accessories. Its main systems are BASIS and BASIS VARIO, both built around the idea of combining a firearm-specific base rail with an interchangeable optic mounting rail.

This specialization has made Dentler particularly relevant to hunters who want a structured way to use different optics on suitable rifles without changing the basic mounting concept. In the company’s range, BASIS serves as the core modular platform, while BASIS VARIO adds continuous height and windage adjustment. Dentler also offers mounting rails for optics formats from brands such as Aimpoint, Pulsar, Swarovski and Zeiss, showing the company’s focus on cross-compatibility within a dedicated hunting mount system.
