Bushnell Prime 3-9x40

• 3-9x magnification range: Covers the classic hunting spread from close woodland shots to longer field edges, giving the scope enough flexibility for stalking, general-purpose deer hunting, and range work without adding unnecessary bulk.
• 40 mm objective lens: Balances light gathering with a trim front end, helping maintain a practical mounting height while still delivering a bright image in the low-light periods when game is often most active.
• Second focal plane reticle: Keeps the reticle visually consistent through the zoom range, so the sight picture stays uncluttered at low power and easy to place precisely at higher magnification.
• Fully multi-coated optics: Improve contrast and image brightness across the zoom range, which makes it easier to pick out detail in shadow, brush, and mixed light rather than simply seeing a larger image.
• IPX7 waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction: Built to handle rain, temperature changes, and damp hunting conditions while resisting internal fogging, so the scope remains usable when weather turns poor.

About the Bushnell Prime Series

Bushnell Prime sits in the brand’s hunting-focused optics range as a practical series built around the features most shooters use in the field. Introduced in 2018, the line brought together fully multi-coated optics, Bushnell’s EXO Barrier lens protection, waterproof construction, and nitrogen fog-proofing in straightforward configurations aimed at general hunting and sporting use. Across the series, Bushnell offered familiar magnification classes such as 3-9x40, 4-12x40, and 6-18x50, covering everything from short-to-medium-range stalking to more deliberate shooting from a rest.

A defining trait of the Prime riflescope family is its emphasis on uncomplicated operation. The series uses second-focal-plane reticles throughout, with reticle options such as Multi-X and selected specialty variants depending on the model. Some versions add side parallax adjustment, while others keep a fixed-parallax layout for faster handling and lower weight. That design approach makes Prime riflescopes well suited to hunters who want a clear image, predictable controls, and weather-resistant construction without moving into heavier tactical-style optics.

About the Bushnell Prime 3-9x40

The Bushnell Prime 3-9x40 is the classic all-round hunting riflescope in the series, combining a 3-9x magnification range with a 40 mm objective lens in a compact, easy-to-mount format. At 3x, it stays quick enough for shorter shots in woodland or broken terrain where a wider field of view helps with target acquisition. At 9x, it gives enough image scale for more careful shot placement across open ground, making it a natural fit for stalking rifles and general-purpose hunting setups.

This model uses a second focal plane reticle, which keeps the reticle size constant as magnification changes. In practice, that means the aiming point remains easy to see at low power and does not become overly bold at higher magnification. The capped turrets suit a hunting scope well because they protect the settings from accidental movement while the rifle is carried in a vehicle, on a sling, or through cover. With 1/4 MOA clicks and 56 MOA of elevation and windage travel, the adjustments are straightforward for zeroing and occasional correction.

The optical layout is equally practical. Fully multi-coated lenses help maintain brightness and contrast, while the fixed 91.4 m parallax setting keeps operation simple for the distances at which this type of scope is commonly used. A 25.4 mm tube, 442 g weight, and 308 mm length keep the scope balanced on traditional hunting rifles, and the nitrogen-filled, IPX7 waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction supports dependable field use in changing weather.

About Bushnell

Bushnell was founded in 1948 by Dave Bushnell. The company grew from his work selling optical products through a photographic shop in Pasadena, California, and it developed into a well-known name in sports optics. Bushnell focuses on equipment for hunting, target shooting, birding, and general outdoor observation, with product categories that include binoculars, riflescopes, red dot sights, rangefinders, spotting scopes, and trail cameras.

Within riflescopes and related optics, Bushnell is known for broad, purpose-built product families such as Legend, Prime, Elite Tactical, and AR Optics. The company has also introduced proprietary features such as EXO Barrier, a protective lens coating designed to shed water, oil, dust, and debris. In 2013, ATK acquired Bushnell Group Holdings, marking an important point in the company’s modern history while Bushnell continued to build its reputation around practical field optics.
