About AL Mar

AL Mar was founded by Al Mar in 1979. Before starting the company, he served in a Green Beret special operations group in Vietnam, and that background shaped the brand’s early direction. Many of the company’s first knife designs were intended for police and military use, which helps explain the practical, duty-oriented character still associated with the name today.

Over time, the range expanded beyond tactical patterns to include hunting and fishing knives as well as SERE, fixed-blade, folding and rescue models. The SERE name remains especially important in the brand’s history, with the design accepted for use at the SERE Instructor School at Camp Mackall, North Carolina.
