Vortex Diamondback HD 16-48x65 Straight

• 16-48x zoom range: Covers wide-area scanning at lower power and more detailed evaluation at higher magnification, making the scope practical for hunting, target observation, and general wildlife viewing from one position.
• 65 mm HD optical system: The HD design helps reduce chromatic aberration and improves contrast and color fidelity, so fine detail is easier to separate in brush, shadow, and mixed light.
• Straight viewing body: A straight spotting scope is quick to align on distant subjects, which is especially useful when tracking moving game or switching rapidly between binoculars and a rifle-mounted optic.
• Helical focus with fully multi-coated lenses: Fast, smooth focusing and efficient light transmission help bring subjects into view quickly while maintaining a clear, bright image through the zoom range.
• Weather-sealed rubber-armored construction: Waterproof, fogproof, shockproof construction with a rubberized exterior supports reliable field use in rain, cold mornings, rough transport, and frequent tripod mounting.

About the Vortex Diamondback Series

Vortex Diamondback HD spotting scopes sit in the brand’s mid-range field optics lineup, aimed at users who need dependable performance for hunting and wildlife observation without moving into heavier premium models. The series is built around an HD optical system with fully multi-coated lenses, giving these scopes the contrast, color fidelity, and edge-to-edge sharpness needed for glassing over open ground, checking distant movement, or judging detail at longer distances. Current models are offered in 65 mm and 85 mm objective sizes, with both straight and angled configurations to suit different viewing styles and tripod setups.

The design philosophy is practical rather than specialized. Helical focus keeps operation simple and quick, while the rubber-armored body is made for regular field handling. The series is also argon-purged and O-ring sealed for waterproof and fogproof performance, and it is tripod-adaptable with Arca-Swiss compatibility for straightforward mounting. In use, Diamondback HD spotting scopes are intended to balance portability, useful magnification, and solid optical performance for hunters, range users, and observers who spend long periods behind glass.

About the Vortex Diamondback HD 16-48x65 Straight

The Vortex Diamondback HD 16-48x65 Straight is the more compact straight-body option in the Diamondback HD spotting-scope range, combining a manageable footprint with enough magnification for serious field observation. Its 16-48x zoom range gives it a broad working envelope: lower magnification is useful for scanning hillsides, tree lines, or open country, while the upper end helps confirm antler points, read terrain detail, or inspect impacts at distance. The 65 mm objective lens keeps the scope easier to carry and mount than larger full-size models, while still providing the image brightness needed for regular daytime use.

The optical system is built around HD glass and fully multi-coated lenses, which matter in practice because they help control color fringing and preserve contrast when subjects are partly obscured by haze, brush, or uneven light. Eye relief of 18.3-20.3 mm also makes the scope more accommodating during longer viewing sessions and more comfortable for many eyeglass wearers.

The straight viewing configuration is especially useful for fast target acquisition. It is intuitive to point, works well when following moving subjects, and suits users who often alternate between a spotting scope and another optic. The helical focus system keeps adjustments quick and direct, while the rubber-armored housing, nitrogen filling, waterproof and fogproof construction, and shockproof design support regular use in rough weather and field transport. Tripod adaptability adds stability for extended glassing and more precise observation at higher magnification.

About Vortex

Vortex traces its roots to a Wild Birds Unlimited store opened by the Hamilton family in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1986. The brand entered the sport optics market in 2002 and has since focused on optics for hunting, shooting, and outdoor use. Headquartered in Barneveld, Wisconsin, Vortex is employee-owned and operated.

The company’s catalog covers a broad range of field and shooting optics, including binoculars, riflescopes, spotting scopes, laser rangefinders, and red dots. Across that lineup, Vortex is known for building practical, field-oriented products in clearly defined families such as Razor, Viper, and Kaibab, while also developing supporting tools such as ballistic solutions powered by GeoBallistics technology. That mix of hunting optics, shooting optics, and supporting technology has made Vortex a well-established name in the American sport-optics market.
