Nikon Prostaff P7 10x42 Product description

  • 10x42 configuration: The 10x magnification brings distant birds, wildlife and game into clearer view, while the 42 mm objective size keeps the binocular practical to carry for longer walks and observation sessions.
  • Wide apparent field of view: With a 62.9° apparent field of view, the image feels open and immersive, which helps when scanning woodland edges, following moving birds or picking up subjects quickly.
  • Phase-corrected roof prisms with dielectric coating: This prism system improves definition, contrast and light transmission, giving a cleaner image with better detail recognition in mixed light and over longer viewing periods.
  • Locking diopter and central focus: Once the diopter is set to the user’s eyesight, it stays in place, while the central focusing system allows quick, simple adjustment as viewing distances change.
  • Waterproof and fogproof construction: Nitrogen filling and sealed construction help the binocular stay reliable in rain, damp air and temperature changes, making it suitable for regular outdoor use.

About the Nikon Prostaff P7 Series

The Nikon Prostaff P7 series sits at the top of Nikon’s PROSTAFF binocular line and was introduced on June 9, 2022 as the successor to the PROSTAFF 7S family. The range covers compact and full-size formats, including 8x30, 10x30, 8x42 and 10x42 models, with larger 10x50 and 12x50 versions added later. Across the series, Nikon focuses on practical outdoor use for birdwatching, nature observation, sports events and hiking, combining manageable weight with a feature set aimed at frequent field use.

PROSTAFF P7 binoculars use roof prisms with phase-correction and dielectric high-reflective multilayer coatings to improve clarity and maintain brightness. Nikon also equips the series with multilayer-coated lenses and prisms, plus oil- and water-repellent coatings on the objective and eyepiece lenses to make cleaning easier in real outdoor conditions. A locking diopter adjustment ring is a defining mechanical feature of the line, helping users keep their personal setting secure. The series is also built for weather exposure, with nitrogen gas and O-ring sealing for waterproof and fogproof performance.

About the Nikon Prostaff P7 10x42

The Nikon Prostaff P7 10x42 is the full-size model in the series for users who want more reach without moving into a larger, heavier binocular. Its 10x magnification helps bring distant wildlife, birds and landscape details closer, while the 42 mm objective lenses provide a balanced combination of image brightness and portability. This makes the model well suited to hunting optics use, birdwatching and general outdoor observation where subjects may appear at varying distances.

The optical design is built around roof prisms with phase-correction and dielectric coating, supported by multilayer-coated lenses and prisms. In practice, this helps preserve contrast and detail, especially when viewing fine textures such as plumage, antlers or branches against shaded backgrounds. The 122 m/1000m field of view and 62.9° apparent field of view give the image a broad, open feel that makes it easier to scan terrain and keep moving subjects in sight. With an exit pupil of 4.20 mm and 15.70 mm eye relief, the binocular remains comfortable for extended viewing and usable for many eyeglass wearers.

Mechanically, the binocular is designed for straightforward field handling. The central focusing system allows quick adjustment as subjects move from near to far, and the locking diopter on the left eyepiece prevents accidental changes after setup. At 600.00 g and 150.00 mm long, it stays compact enough for day-long carry, while the waterproof, fogproof and nitrogen-filled construction supports dependable use in wet weather and changing temperatures.

About Nikon

Nikon was established in Tokyo on July 25, 1917 as Nippon Kogaku K.K. and remains headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company adopted the name Nikon Corporation on April 1, 1988. Beyond cameras, Nikon’s business includes imaging products, precision equipment, healthcare, industry, components and digital manufacturing, reflecting a long background in optical and precision engineering.

In sport optics, Nikon produces binoculars, fieldscopes and laser rangefinders, with binocular families that include MONARCH, PROSTAFF, EDG, ACULON and High Grade. Its long-standing expertise in lens design and coatings is especially relevant here, as many Nikon binoculars use multilayer-coated lenses to improve light transmission. Nikon’s history in binoculars goes back more than a century, including the introduction of its MIKRON compact binoculars in 1921.
