Kite Optics Ibis 8x42 ED Product description

  • ED/HD optical system: reduces chromatic aberration and keeps the image sharp across the field, which helps with accurate identification of birds, game, and distant detail in difficult light.
  • Open-bridge aluminium body: gives a secure one-handed hold and places the focus wheel naturally under the index finger, improving control during long observation sessions and while moving.
  • 91 % light transmission: supports a bright, high-contrast view for dawn, dusk, woodland, and overcast conditions where image brightness matters most.
  • Long 19.50 mm eye relief: provides a more comfortable full-field view, especially for eyeglass wearers who need usable eye distance without losing field of view.
  • Waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction: resists rain, humidity, and internal fogging, so the binocular remains dependable in changing weather and cold-to-warm transitions.

About the Kite Optics Ibis ED Series

The Kite Optics Ibis ED series is the brand’s open-bridge binocular family, built for users who want a practical balance of portability, handling, and refined image quality. The range currently includes 8x42, 10x42, 8.5x50, 10x50, and 12x50 models, covering general nature observation, birding, hiking, and hunting use. Across the series, the design focus is not only on optical performance but also on how the binocular feels in the hand during long periods of glassing.

The series uses an ED/HD optical system intended to reduce chromatic aberration and maintain sharpness from the center toward the edges, while also rendering colors naturally for more reliable identification. Kite Optics also equips the line with KITE PERMAVISION and KITE PERMARESIST coatings, together with waterproof, nitrogen-filled construction for field use in wet and variable conditions. A defining feature of the series is its open-bridge layout, which allows the hand to wrap around one barrel while the index finger stays close to the focus wheel. The Ibis ED also uses removable metal twist-up eyecups, adding durability and making cleaning or replacement more straightforward over time.

About the Kite Optics Ibis 8x42 ED

The Kite Optics Ibis 8x42 ED is the most versatile configuration in the Ibis ED line for all-round field use. Its 8x magnification is easy to hold steady for extended observation, while the 42.00 mm objective lenses provide a useful balance between brightness, size, and carrying comfort. This makes the model well suited to bird watching, woodland observation, hiking, and hunting optics use where conditions and viewing distances can change quickly.

The optical layout combines a Roof - Schmidt/Pechan prism system with fully multicoated lenses and 91 % light transmission, giving a bright, contrast-rich image that remains practical in low-light periods at the start and end of the day. The 5.25 mm exit pupil supports relaxed viewing, and the wide 127.75 m/1000m field of view helps when scanning open ground or following moving subjects. At the same time, the 1.40 m close focus lets the binocular work well for nearby detail such as insects, plants, or birds at short range.

Handling is a major strength of this model. The open-bridge aluminium body keeps weight to 745.00 g while giving a secure grip and natural finger access to the central focus wheel. The long 19.50 mm eye relief improves comfort for eyeglass wearers, and the right-eyepiece diopter adjustment allows fine tuning to the user’s eyesight. Waterproof, fogproof, and nitrogen-filled construction adds reliability in rain, cold mornings, and rapid temperature changes, making this 8x42 binocular a strong choice for regular outdoor use.
