Caldwell AR500 Dueling Tree

• Reactive six-plate design: each hit swings a plate to the opposite side of the post, giving immediate visual feedback that keeps practice fast, competitive, and easy to score.
• AR500 steel construction: the targets and center post are built from steel intended for repeated live-fire use, making the system suitable for regular handgun and centerfire rifle training.
• Adjustable base angle: the stand can be tuned for uneven ground and different impact energies, helping the target reset and react more consistently across different range setups.
• Rifle-rated target system: the 3/8” AR500 steel plates are rated for handgun use at 10 yards, .223 Rem at 100 yards, and .308 Win at 200 yards, giving one target system a broad training role.
• Full-size training format: with six 6” diameter targets on a 54” tall frame and 24” x 24” base, the tree offers a practical balance of visibility, challenge, and stability for drills or informal competition.

About the Caldwell Accessories Series

Caldwell Accessories covers a broad range of shooting-support products built around practical range use rather than a single optics or firearm category. Within the wider Caldwell catalog, the series sits as a utility-focused family that supports setup, transport, training, and day-to-day shooting tasks. The emphasis is on straightforward equipment that helps organize range sessions, improve repeatability, and add more structured practice to recreational or serious firearms use.

Across the brand, Caldwell accessories are typically aimed at shooters who want durable equipment for frequent handling and outdoor use. The range includes products for target shooting and firearms support, with designs that favor simple operation and robust materials over unnecessary complexity. In that context, the series is defined less by one shared mechanism than by a common purpose: giving shooters dependable gear for training environments, whether that means target systems, support equipment, or other range-oriented tools. For steel-target products such as this one, that translates into sturdy construction, reactive feedback, and layouts that make drills more engaging and easier to run.

About the Caldwell AR500 Dueling Tree

The Caldwell AR500 Dueling Tree is built for shooters who want a target that combines immediate hit confirmation with a more dynamic training format than a static plate. Its six reactive paddles move from one side of the post to the other after impact, so every shot produces a visible result. That makes the target useful both for solo practice, where fast feedback helps track cadence and accuracy, and for head-to-head drills where two shooters can race to clear one side.

The layout uses six 6” diameter targets, which are large enough to stay visible during faster strings while still demanding meaningful shot placement. The target faces and center post are made from 3/8” AR500 steel, giving the system the durability needed for repeated use with appropriate handgun and centerfire rifle cartridges. Caldwell rates it for handgun at 10 yards, .223 Rem at 100 yards, and .308 Win at 200 yards, which makes it suitable for a wide span of practical range work.

The frame stands 54” tall on a 24” x 24” base, creating a stable footprint without making the target cumbersome in use. An adjustable-angle base helps the tree work more reliably on uneven ground and lets the user tune target behavior for different impact energies. That adjustability matters in the field because it helps maintain consistent plate movement and reset action, which is what gives a dueling tree its training value in the first place.

About Caldwell

Caldwell is a shooting-supplies brand focused on equipment for range use and firearms-related applications. The company is known for building practical products that support training, setup, and shooting comfort rather than concentrating on firearms themselves. Its catalog spans electronic hearing protection, shooting rests, targets, and ballistic chronographs, reflecting a strong emphasis on range equipment and shooting accessories.

Within that lineup, Caldwell has become especially familiar to shooters through product families such as the E-Max hearing-protection line and the Lead Sled shooting rests. The brand also offers steel targets and target-launching equipment, which places it firmly in the training and practice segment of the market. In December 2014, Smith & Wesson announced its acquisition of Battenfeld Technologies, which included Caldwell Shooting Supplies. That background helps explain Caldwell’s reputation for broad, utility-driven shooting gear designed for regular use at the range.
