Zeiss 20x60 T* S (Image Stabilizer) Product description

  • Mechanical image stabilization: The stabilizing system reduces visible hand shake at 20x magnification, making it practical to observe distant subjects without carrying a tripod.
  • 20x60 Porro optical system: High magnification combined with a 60 mm objective gives this binocular the reach for long-distance wildlife observation, mountain viewing, astronomy, and detailed target spotting.
  • ZEISS T* fully multicoated optics: Efficient light transmission and strong contrast help preserve detail and image clarity when viewing in difficult light or over long distances.
  • Central focusing with wide diopter range: Fast central focus and +/- 7 dpt diopter adjustment make it easier to fine-tune the image for different users and changing viewing distances.
  • Robust, weather-resistant construction: Nitrogen filling, fogproofing, and waterproofing support reliable use in cold air, damp conditions, and changing outdoor temperatures.

About the Zeiss Special Series

The Zeiss Special series brings together classic binocular designs built for distinct observation tasks rather than broad general-purpose use. A 2010 ZEISS hunting catalog grouped these models under the name Special Binoculars and described them as classic binoculars available by special order at that time. Within the series, ZEISS used both Porro and Schmidt-Pechan prism systems, showing that the range was shaped around application needs rather than a single mechanical format.

The series covered work as varied as twilight and safari hunting, marine observation, and long-range game viewing. It also included mechanically image-stabilized binoculars, which set some models apart from conventional handheld optics by making high magnification more usable in the field. That mix of classic optical layouts, specialized functions, and purpose-driven configurations gives the Zeiss Special family its identity. Instead of aiming at compact everyday carry, these binoculars are designed for users who need a specific viewing characteristic, whether that is steadier high-power observation, marine practicality, or strong low-light performance from traditional binocular architecture.

About the Zeiss 20x60 T* S (Image Stabilizer)

The Zeiss 20x60 T* S is a specialized long-range binocular built for situations where ordinary handheld binoculars run out of useful magnification. At 20x, small movements from the hands are normally enough to blur fine detail, which is why this model centers its design around a mechanical image stabilization system. In practice, that means distant animals, mountain features, ships, aircraft, or celestial objects can be observed with much more control than with a conventional high-power binocular of similar size.

The 60 mm objective lenses and Porro prism design support bright, high-contrast viewing for a binocular in this magnification class, while the ZEISS T* fully multicoated optical system helps maintain clarity and detail over long distances. A 3.00 mm exit pupil and 60.00 ° apparent field of view give the image a more natural, less tunnel-like feel than many high-magnification binoculars, which helps when following a subject or scanning a distant scene.

This model is also configured for deliberate, field-based observation rather than quick casual use. Central focusing allows straightforward adjustment, while the +/- 7 dpt diopter range helps adapt the image to the observer’s eyesight. The fixed-body construction, nitrogen-filled housing, and fogproof, waterproof build suit outdoor use in changing weather. For astronomy, long-range wildlife observation, and detailed daytime viewing where a spotting scope may be less convenient, the 20x60 T* S occupies a very specific role: it delivers spotting-scope-like reach in a binocular format that remains usable from the hands.

About Zeiss

Carl Zeiss opened an optical and precision-mechanics workshop in Jena in 1846, laying the foundation for one of Germany’s best-known optics manufacturers. Today ZEISS is headquartered in Oberkochen, Germany, and develops binoculars, riflescopes, and spotting scopes for hunting and outdoor use alongside its wider optical and industrial activities.

In sport optics, ZEISS is closely associated with proprietary optical technologies such as ZEISS T* lens coating, used to improve light transmission and contrast, and LotuTec protective coating on hunting optics. Its product range has included lines such as Victory FL, Conquest, Terra ED, and Victory RF, reflecting long experience across observation, hunting, and rangefinding applications. That background is especially relevant to a model like the 20x60 T* S, where optical precision and mechanical execution are equally important.

Re: Zeiss 20×60 T* S Hello, This looks like a remarkable product. Am I correct in understanding that there is no waterproofing whatsoever? Also, is it correct that there is none of Zeiss' usual gas-purging processes undertaken? I'm curious to know why Zeiss chose not to include some of these excellent features? Thank you for your time

by Laurence

Dear Sir,

thank you for contacting us.

You are correct. This product is filled with neither Nitrogen nor Argon. The reason for this is not entirely known to us, but the most obvious one is that Zeiss considers this not necessary as these binocular is not suitable for hunting or birdwatching but for astronomy which is usually done in good weather conditions.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards,

Zeiss 20 x 60

The 20 x 60 IS was my third purchase of premium optics from optics trade. The Zeiss 20 x.60 is a very unique binocular , infact the only one of its kind. No company has been able to duplicate it. Imagine a 20 X bino with razor sharp views that can be handheld.!!
Optics trade service is top class in terms of correspondence and pricing and courtesy.
Hope to shop with them again
