Schmidt & Bender 5-20x50 PM II Ultra Short LPI Product description

  • Ultra-short 299 mm body: The compact layout leaves more room on rifles with limited rail space and makes it easier to combine the scope with clip-on devices without forcing an awkward shooting position.
  • 5-20x magnification range: Low-end magnification remains practical for closer engagements, while 20x gives the precision needed for target identification and exact hold placement at longer distances.
  • LPI illumination control: Schmidt & Bender’s illumination integrated into the parallax control reduces external clutter and improves handling, especially on compact tactical rifle setups and for left-handed operation.
  • 34 mm main tube with tactical turrets: The larger tube supports a robust mechanical layout, while the tactical turret configuration suits repeatable dialing for precision shooting and duty use.
  • Fully multicoated optics with 90% transmission: High transmission and quality coatings help preserve contrast and detail in poor light, so targets remain easier to read when conditions are less than ideal.

About the Schmidt & Bender PM II Series

The Schmidt & Bender PM II series began in 1999 with the 3-12x50 PM II, a model that introduced parallax adjustment to the line and set the direction for the family. Since then, PM II riflescopes have grown into a broad range built for police, military, and competition shooters, covering roles from short-distance work to extreme-long-range shooting. Within Schmidt & Bender’s lineup, PM II sits in the company’s Defence range and is defined by precise mechanics, durable construction, and configurations tailored to professional use.

The series includes ShortDot, Ultra Short, High Power, and High Performance variants, giving users different ways to balance compactness, magnification range, and mission profile. Across the family, PM II models are offered with different reticle and focal-plane layouts, allowing the riflescope to be matched to holdover-based shooting, dialing-heavy precision work, or mixed-use tactical applications. The common thread is a design philosophy that prioritizes dependable tracking, practical control layout, and optical performance suited to demanding field conditions rather than range-only use.

About the Schmidt & Bender 5-20x50 PM II Ultra Short LPI

The Schmidt & Bender 5-20x50 PM II Ultra Short LPI is built for shooters who need full tactical riflescope capability in a notably compact format. With an overall length of 299.00 mm, it is especially well suited to rifles with restricted mounting space, including semi-automatic platforms with short rails, while still offering the magnification range needed for medium- to long-range precision work. The 5-20x zoom span gives the scope enough flexibility for observation, target discrimination, and precise shot placement without moving into the bulk of a larger high-magnification optic.

A key feature of this version is LPI, Schmidt & Bender’s illumination integrated into the parallax control. In practice, this keeps the control area more compact and improves access around the saddle, which is particularly useful on dense rifle setups and for left-handed handling. The side-focus system adjusts from 25 to infinity, helping the image stay sharp across a wide range of engagement distances. The illuminated reticle supports aiming in poor light or against dark backgrounds, while the tactical turret layout is intended for deliberate, repeatable elevation and windage corrections in the field.

Optically, the scope combines a 50.00 mm objective lens, fully multicoated lenses, and 90 light transmission to maintain a bright, high-contrast image. Eye relief of 90.00 mm supports use on heavier recoiling rifles, and the rugged construction is reinforced by waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof protection, plus a working temperature range of -46/+60°C. The result is a compact tactical riflescope that keeps professional-grade mechanical and optical performance in a form that is easier to mount and easier to run on space-limited rifles.

About Schmidt & Bender

Schmidt & Bender was founded in 1957 by Helmut Schmidt and Helmut Bender in Biebertal-Fellingshausen, Germany. The company remains based in Biebertal and is known for making precision riflescopes for hunting, competition shooting, police, and military use. Its product families include the Zenith and PM II lines, reflecting a long focus on premium optical sights built around exact mechanics and dependable field use.

Over time, Schmidt & Bender expanded its optical capability as well as its product range. In 1992, the company established a Hungarian subsidiary based on an optical department acquired from MOM. In the years that followed, it introduced notable riflescope developments such as the Zenith 2.5-10x56 in 2001 and FlashDot illumination in the Zenith series from 2002. Today, the brand is particularly respected for tactical and precision riflescopes that combine robust construction with the repeatable adjustment quality expected in demanding shooting applications.

Dear, i ordered the Era Tac 1 piece tactical qd mount support with a 17mm BH height. i would like to order the Schmidt & Bender 5-20x50 PM II Ultra Short LPI. but i'm scared that it not will fit or do you think this one would fit with my 17mm bh ? it's to mount on a picatinny rail on my G28 HK. thanks for the good service.

by Arne

Dear Sir,

Yes — that mount will fit. With the Schmidt & Bender 5–20×50 PM II Ultra Short LPI mounted on your 17 mm BH Era-Tac QD, the objective-to-Picatinny clearance should be about 11.5 mm, which also leaves enough room for a clip-on device if you need one.

Best regards

Hi OpticsTrade, I had another question. When checking out the website of Schmidt & Bender 5-20x50 PM II LPI, it confirms the illumination. But I was wondering If it's possible to get this scope with the tremor 3 reticle. On the website it mentions its possible on request. And regarding the tremor 5, is the illumination grid similar as the tremor 3? Many thanks for any information you could give, Best regards, Kasper
