Pachmayr American Legend Series 1911 Government

• Wraparound 1911 grip design: The one-piece format gives a fuller hold than slim grip panels, helping the pistol sit more securely in the hand during recoil and fast follow-up shots.
• Rubber frontstrap with finger grooves: The soft, recoil-absorbing rubber adds control where the hand works hardest, improving purchase in extended range sessions and under wet or sweaty conditions.
• Wood laminate side panels: The American Legend layout combines classic wood styling with a practical gripping surface, making it a strong fit for shooters who want traditional 1911 looks without giving up handling.
• Relief cuts for ambidextrous safeties: The grip is shaped to work with common 1911 control layouts, so it suits pistols set up for left- or right-handed operation.
• Mainspring housing pin cut-out: This detail supports proper fit on Government-pattern 1911 pistols and keeps installation straightforward for owners upgrading factory grips.

About the Pachmayr Accessories Series

Pachmayr Accessories covers a broad range of shooting products built around practical handling improvements rather than cosmetic changes alone. The line includes handgun grips, revolver grips, rifle grips and recoil pads for rifles and shotguns, reflecting Pachmayr’s long-standing focus on how firearms feel in real use. Within the handgun segment, the range spans everything from slip-on rubber designs to G10 Tactical, Renegade laminate models and classic wraparound formats.

What ties the series together is a clear emphasis on control, recoil management and fit. Many Pachmayr grip designs use rubber contact surfaces to improve purchase and soften the feel of recoil, while laminate or synthetic side panels provide a more traditional appearance or a different texture profile. In practical terms, these accessories are aimed at shooters who want a more secure hold, better comfort over long sessions and a grip shape that complements the firearm’s intended role, whether that is range use, field carry or general handgun handling. The series sits as a functional upgrade path for owners who value dependable ergonomics and established Pachmayr styling.

About the Pachmayr American Legend Series 1911 Government

The Pachmayr American Legend Series 1911 Government is a wraparound handgun grip made for shooters who want the classic look of wood on a Government-size 1911 without giving up the control benefits of rubber. Its defining feature is the American Legend construction: wood laminate side panels combined with a rubber frontstrap. That layout gives the pistol a more traditional appearance than an all-rubber grip, while still placing the softer, more secure gripping surface exactly where the support and firing hand apply the most pressure.

In use, the finger-grooved rubber frontstrap helps the pistol index consistently from draw to shot, and it can make long practice sessions more comfortable by reducing the sharp feel of recoil against the fingers. The wraparound shape also fills the hand more fully than standard flat panels, which many shooters prefer on a hard-running .45 ACP platform. For practical 1911 use, that means steadier control during rapid strings and a more settled grip when shooting one-handed or transitioning between targets.

This model is also configured with relief cuts for ambidextrous safeties and a mainspring housing pin cut-out, details that matter on customized or upgraded 1911 pistols. Rather than forcing the owner to compromise around common control changes, the grip is shaped to work with them. The result is a 1911 Government grip that balances appearance, comfort and day-to-day shooting utility in a format closely associated with Pachmayr handgun accessories.

About Pachmayr

Pachmayr was founded by Frank Pachmayr in 1929 and built its reputation around practical shooting accessories and custom-gun work. The brand became especially well known for handgun grips, recoil pads, gunsmithing tools and related shooting accessories, with products designed to improve control, comfort and recoil management. Pachmayr introduced its first recoil pad in 1949, and its rubber handgun grips reached the market in the early 1960s, helping establish the company as a familiar name among American shooters.

Over time, Pachmayr expanded its grip offerings to include lines such as American Legend, Diamond Pro, G10 and Renegade, covering both traditional and more modern preferences. The brand joined Lyman in 1996, and its manufacturing plant relocated to Prescott Valley, Arizona, in 2014. Today, Pachmayr remains closely associated with firearm-contact accessories that focus on fit, handling and recoil reduction rather than decoration alone.
