Nikon Monarch M5 8x42 Product description

  • 8x42 configuration: The 8x magnification gives a steady, easy-to-hold view, while the 42 mm objectives provide a bright image that works well from woodland shade to open-country glassing.
  • Long 19.50 mm eye relief: The generous eye relief makes the binocular comfortable for extended observation and especially practical for eyeglass wearers who need to see the full field of view.
  • Wide field of view: With 112.00 m/1000m, the MONARCH M5 8x42 helps track birds, wildlife and moving subjects more naturally, with less need for constant repositioning.
  • Nitrogen-filled waterproof construction: Waterproof and fogproof sealing helps keep the binocular reliable when moving between cold and warm conditions or using it in rain, mist and damp morning air.
  • Close focus of 2.50 m: The short close-focus distance is useful for nearby birds, insects and detail-rich nature observation, not only for long-distance viewing.

About the Nikon Monarch M5 Series

The Nikon MONARCH M5 series sits within Nikon’s established MONARCH sport optics line as a versatile roof-prism binocular family for users who want a practical balance of portability, brightness and all-round field use. Nikon introduced the MONARCH M5 8x42, 10x42 and 12x42 on September 22, 2021, and the range also includes 10x50 and 12x50 models. Across the series, Nikon positions these binoculars for birdwatching, nature watching, camping, hiking, stargazing, marine sports and fishing, which explains the emphasis on broad usability rather than a narrow specialist setup.

All MONARCH M5 models use roof prisms, extra-low-dispersion glass, multilayer-coated lenses and prisms, plus dielectric high-reflective and phase-correction coatings. In practice, that combination is aimed at a cleaner image with better contrast and reduced colour fringing, especially around high-contrast edges. The series also uses long eye relief, turn-and-slide rubber eyecups, rubber armouring and bodies made from fibreglass-reinforced polycarbonate resin. Nikon specifies waterproof and fog-free construction with O-ring seals and nitrogen gas, giving the MONARCH M5 line the durability expected from hunting binoculars and general outdoor binoculars used across changing weather and terrain.

About the Nikon Monarch M5 8x42

The Nikon Monarch M5 8x42 is the most broadly adaptable configuration in the series, combining 8x magnification with a 42.00 mm objective for a view that is bright, stable and easy to manage over long sessions. For bird watching binoculars and hunting binoculars alike, this format works well because it offers enough reach for scanning fields, woodland edges and distant ridgelines without the narrower, less forgiving handling that comes with higher magnification. The 5.25 mm exit pupil also supports comfortable viewing in lower light, helping the image stay easy on the eyes at dawn, dusk or under heavy tree cover.

Its 112.00 m/1000m field of view and 6.40 ° real angle of view make it easier to locate and follow moving subjects, whether that means tracking birds through branches or keeping game in view as it moves across uneven ground. The 19.50 mm eye relief is a major practical advantage for eyeglass wearers, and it also contributes to a more relaxed viewing position during prolonged observation. A close focus of 2.50 m extends the binocular’s usefulness beyond distant subjects, making it suitable for butterflies, feeders and nearby detail in nature study.

Mechanically, the binocular uses a central focusing system with diopter adjustment on the left eyepiece, allowing quick general focusing and simple correction between the user’s eyes. The single-hinge body, 630.00 g weight and compact dimensions keep it portable without making it feel insubstantial. Waterproof, fogproof and nitrogen filled, the MONARCH M5 8x42 is built for regular outdoor use where changing temperatures, damp air and rough handling are part of normal field conditions.

About Nikon

Nikon was established in Tokyo on July 25, 1917, as Nippon Kogaku K.K., and it changed its name to Nikon Corporation on April 1, 1988. Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company works across imaging products, precision equipment, healthcare, industry, components and digital manufacturing. In sport optics, Nikon’s range includes binoculars, fieldscopes and laser rangefinders, with binocular families such as MONARCH, PROSTAFF, EDG, ACULON and High Grade.

That broad optical background matters in binocular design because Nikon brings long experience in lens production and optical coatings to its field optics. Many Nikon binoculars use multilayer-coated lenses to improve light transmission, and the company has been active in this category for decades, including the introduction of its MIKRON compact binoculars in 1921. Within today’s lineup, the MONARCH family represents Nikon’s core all-round sport optics platform for users who need dependable outdoor binoculars with practical optical performance and durable construction.
