Meprolight Mepro R4E Night Sight for 1911 Novak Wide

• Five-element sight picture: The R4E layout combines three vertical features with two horizontal reference lines, helping the eye center the sights faster than a conventional 3-dot arrangement when speed matters.
• Self-illuminated tritium system: Tritium inserts in the front and rear sights stay visible in low light and darkness without batteries, so the pistol remains ready around the clock with no switches or charging routine.
• Steel construction: A steel sight body gives the set the durability expected for defensive and duty handguns, with the rigidity needed to hold its shape under daily carry and repeated recoil.
• Fixed sight setup: The fixed design keeps the profile simple and robust, making it well suited to hard use, concealed carry, and pistols that need a dependable zero without adjustment knobs.
• 1911 Novak Wide fit: This version is configured for 1911 Novak Wide dovetails, making it a practical upgrade for shooters who want a dedicated night-sight set matched to that handgun pattern.

About the Meprolight R4E Series

The Meprolight R4E series is an optimized-duty branch of the company’s TRU-DOT pistol-sight range, developed for handguns used in defensive, duty, and concealed-carry roles. Introduced in 2015, the concept behind the series is to make alignment faster and more intuitive under stress by moving beyond a standard three-dot picture. Instead of relying on identical dots alone, the R4E uses five alignment elements: three vertical references and two horizontal lines that create a more structured sight picture for rapid centering.

A defining feature across the series is its self-illuminated tritium system in both front and rear sights. That gives the sights constant low-light visibility without batteries and without needing exposure to an external light source. The sights are also built from steel, reflecting a design philosophy centered on durability and everyday service use rather than range-only handling. Within Meprolight’s handgun-sight lineup, the R4E series stands out for combining a duty-oriented build with a sight picture designed to support quick target acquisition in changing light, whether the pistol is carried openly, concealed, or kept ready for home defense.

About the Meprolight Mepro R4E Night Sight for 1911 Novak Wide

The Meprolight Mepro R4E Night Sight for 1911 Novak Wide adapts the R4E concept to pistols cut for the 1911 Novak Wide pattern, giving this classic handgun platform a faster, more structured night-sight picture. Rather than using a basic three-dot arrangement, this model employs five alignment elements in a layout that helps the shooter read vertical and horizontal alignment more quickly. In practical use, that can make the sight picture easier to interpret during rapid presentation, low-light shooting, or defensive drills where there is little time to refine the hold.

The sight set is self-illuminated, so the tritium-equipped front and rear remain visible in darkness without batteries. That matters on a carry or duty pistol because there is nothing to activate and no power source to monitor. The fixed adjustment design also suits the role well: it keeps the system simple, snag-free, and resistant to hard use. Combined with the square rear sight, the arrangement gives a clear reference for consistent alignment while preserving the familiar handling expected from iron sights.

Meprolight builds this model from steel, which is important on a working handgun that may see repeated recoil, holster wear, and daily carry. The black finish keeps the overall appearance subdued, while the 3-dot alignment type remains familiar enough for shooters transitioning from conventional night sights. The result is a handgun sight set aimed at users who want the low-light readiness of tritium sights with a more deliberate, high-speed alignment pattern for a 1911 setup.
