GRS Thumbhole, Sako 85 SA

• Thumbhole ergonomics: The shaped grip and high hand position promote a relaxed trigger hand and steadier rifle control, which helps when shooting from field positions as well as from a bench.
• Adjustable cheekpiece: Built-in cheekpiece adjustment makes it easier to align the eye naturally behind the optic, improving comfort and helping maintain a repeatable head position from shot to shot.
• Laminate construction: The laminate stock combines rigidity with weather resistance, giving the rifle a stable platform that stands up well to regular hunting use and changing outdoor conditions.
• Glass-bedding interface: The glass-bedding design supports a precise action fit, which is valuable for shooters who want a more consistent bedding surface and dependable accuracy potential.
• Field-oriented dimensions: With a 390.00 mm length of pull and 40.00 mm forend width, this stock balances practical carry dimensions with enough support for controlled shooting in stalking, woodland and driven-hunt use.

About the GRS Thumbhole Series

The GRS Thumbhole series is built around a classic hunting-stock concept with a more supportive grip shape and the adjustability that has become central to the GRS approach. Described by GRS as its first thumbhole stock, the series sits in the company’s laminate-stock range and is aimed at shooters who want a stock that works both in the field and at the shooting range. That dual role makes it relevant for hunters who need practical carry and fast handling, but also want a stock that supports more deliberate shooting positions.

Across the range, the Thumbhole stocks are made from birch laminate with an oiled finish, giving them the solid feel and visual character associated with laminated rifle stocks while retaining the durability needed for regular outdoor use. The series also incorporates GRS SpeedLock adjustment, allowing the stock to be adapted more quickly to the shooter’s build and optic setup. With versions offered for multiple rifle brands and several color options, the Thumbhole family is designed as a versatile hunting-stock platform that emphasizes fit, control and a more natural shooting posture.

About the GRS Thumbhole, Sako 85 SA

The GRS Thumbhole, Sako 85 SA is a laminate hunting stock made for shooters who want to give a short-action Sako 85 a more tailored fit and a more controlled grip than a conventional factory stock typically provides. Its thumbhole layout places the firing hand in a stable, repeatable position, which can help reduce unnecessary hand movement during the shot. That matters in practical hunting situations where shots may be taken quickly from improvised rests, but it is equally useful on the range when working on consistency.

The stock uses laminate construction and a glass bedding interface, combining structural stability with a bedding approach that supports a precise action fit. The result is a stock suited to hunters who want dependable handling and a solid platform for maintaining rifle accuracy. The adjustable cheekpiece is one of the most useful features in day-to-day use, because it helps the shooter achieve a more natural line of sight through a scope without forcing the head into an awkward position. Better cheek weld generally means faster sight alignment and more consistent eye placement.

With a 390.00 mm length of pull, 40.00 mm forend width and a weight of 1300.00 g, this model remains practical for carrying in the field while still offering enough substance for controlled shooting. Its stated applications include alpine hunting, driven hunt, stalking and woodland hunting, which fits the stock’s overall character: a field-oriented design with enough adjustment to make the rifle more comfortable across varied terrain and shooting positions.
