The Sauer Universal Mount (SUM) system, originally established on mounting surfaces of later-produced Sauer 303 rifles, is designed for easy and accurate scope mounting. The SUM system has been integrated into newer Sauer 404 models.
In 2022, the SUM mounting surface was updated, leading to the creation of two different versions of the SUM standard. This update was quietly introduced, and many users may not have been fully aware of the changes. The key feature of the new generation of SUM mounts is their compatibility with both new and older models of Sauer 404 rifles. However, mounts made before 2022 are not compatible with the newer rifle models. This lack of interchangeability is due to design changes in the recoil notches on the rifles and the recoil stoppers on the mounts. The updated scope mounts now include two angled recoil stoppers, compared to the single, straight stopper in earlier versions. This change improves the fit and security of the mount on the rifle.

Rifles That Are Equipped With Sauer SUM Mounting Surface
The rifles listed below all share the same Sauer SUM mounting surface. This means that the scope mounts are interchangeable among them, ensuring consistent compatibility across these models.
