Leica Camera AG, based in Wetzlar, Germany, has a long-standing reputation for producing products that excel both in mechanical and optical performance. At the beginning of 2023, they introduced a couple of new products, including the second generation of their popular Tempus red dot sight.
Built for Reliability and Ruggedness
The Leica Tempus 2 ASPH. 2.5 MOA is designed with reliability and ruggedness in mind. The sight features a reinforced housing that can withstand shocks of up to 1000 G, making it suitable for use with hard-kicking firearms. This is one of the main advantages over the first-generation model. The point of impact remains unchanged, even under extreme conditions.
Long-Lasting Battery Life and Dot size
It boasts a battery life of over 3000 hours (at medium brightness), so you do not have to worry about the illumination suddenly failing. The low power consumption is made possible by a very efficient main processor (CPU) and the latest-generation LED. This is a marked improvement from the first-generation models. The sight is easy to turn on and off, even with gloves on, and has an automatic on-off feature: if the dot is not moved for a while, it goes into standby mode; once the dot is moved, it turns back on in an instant. After four hours of inactivity, the illumination turns off completely to preserve battery life. The brightness of the illuminated dot is always consistent, regardless of the battery charge level.
Great for rifle use
Tempus 2 is, like its predecessor, too big to be used on handguns. Its 2.5 MOA dot size suggests that is is ideal for rifle use; it offers a balance of precision and minimal coverage of the target.
Image quality
Leica is known worldwide for its high-performance optics, and the new Tempus is no exception. The sight offers true-to-life colors with great contrast. It operates at true 1x magnification, so you can use it with both eyes open. There is barely any tint visible when looking through the lens.
Mounting
The Leica Tempus 2 ASPH. 2.5 MOA is designed to be easy to mount; like its predecessor, the second-generation Tempus uses the Docter/Noblex mounting standard. The package includes all the necessary parts for mounting, such as an Allen key and appropriate Torx screws. There are two versions available as far as mounting is concerned – with the Picatinny mount included or without it.
The second-generation Tempus models have several advantages over the first generation. The most notable are shock resistance, increased battery life and the automatic on-off feature. We are looking forward to testing them when they become available in April 2023. Tempus 2 ASPH is made in Portugal and comes with a 2-year warranty. The price for the second-generation Tempus is 650 € (with Picatinny mount) or 595 € (without Picatinny mount). It comes with a 2-year warranty.
