About Firefield

Established in 2009, Firefield is a U.S.-based brand committed to delivering high-quality optics and shooting accessories at budget-friendly prices. Launched during an economic downturn, the company aimed to close the gap between affordability and performance—offering dependable red dot sights, scopes, lasers, and tactical gear for everyone from beginners to experienced shooters.

With a strong emphasis on value and durability, Firefield equips users with reliable gear that gets the job done without straining their budget.

Firefield Ironclad Mini Reflex Sight – F1

The Firefield Ironclad Mini Reflex Sight – F1 is a compact, lightweight, and budget-friendly red dot optic aimed at handgun shooters, PCC users, and tactical enthusiasts. Known for its affordability and solid build, it’s one of Firefield’s smallest reflex sights to date—designed to deliver reliable performance without the premium price tag. In this review, we take a closer look at its design, usability, and performance in real-world conditions.

Build Quality & Design

Despite its low price, the Ironclad Mini F1 doesn’t feel cheap. It features a durable 6061-T6 aluminum housing with a protective rubber coating that offers added resistance to impacts. The sight weighs only 26 grams on its own—51 grams with the low Picatinny mount and 65 grams with the included riser. The slim bezels offer an unobstructed field of view, especially appreciated when shooting with both eyes open.

However, the lens protrudes slightly beyond the housing, making it more vulnerable from the front. It’s rugged enough to handle calibers like .45 ACP or .308 Winchester, but we wouldn’t recommend racking your slide using the optic.

Adjustments & Controls

Windage and elevation adjustments are done using flat screws on the top and side. A small screwdriver is included, but the lack of tactile clicks or markings makes precise zeroing a challenge. That said, you get a generous 180 MOA adjustment range, which is more than enough for most applications.

Brightness & Reticle

The Ironclad Mini F1 offers 10 brightness settings, making it versatile for various lighting conditions. The lowest setting is great for use with night vision or in low light, while the highest could be brighter—on a sunny day or bright background, the dot may be difficult to see. Brightness is controlled with a single button on the left side: hold for 2 seconds to turn off, and it resumes the last-used setting on startup.

The 3.6 MOA dot is a bit larger than average but helps with fast target acquisition. It’s also parallax-free at 50 meters, making it ideal for close to mid-range shooting.

Optical Performance

The sight uses a true glass lens (a plus at this price point), and while there’s a slight blue tint noticeable against white targets, it’s hardly a deal-breaker. The lens measures 20.5 x 15 mm—a compact size that’s practical for pistols but might feel small on a rifle. Overall, target visibility remains good in most situations.

Battery & Runtime

The optic is powered by a CR2032 battery, offering up to 480 hours on the lowest brightness setting and about 85 hours at the highest. The downside? The battery compartment is on the bottom, requiring you to remove the sight from its mount to replace the cell. A side-loading design would have been far more convenient.

Mounting & Compatibility

The Ironclad Mini F1 uses the common Docter/Noblex footprint, making it compatible with many mounts on the market. Firefield includes both a low Picatinny mount and a 22.6 mm riser, allowing the sight to be mounted on pistols, ARs, AKs, and other platforms with ease.
