Introduction
Many claim that C-more red dot sights are the best when it comes to sport shooting competitions with a handgun. What makes them so great? They boast quite a few enviable characteristics – among them are simplicity of the design, low weight combined with robustness and great optical performance. STS 2, an upgraded version of STS, is a reflex red dot sight made for handguns. It is very popular among American handgun enthusiasts but – unfortunately – not that well-known in Europe.
Physical properties
As regards size, STS2 is very similar to its predecessor – it is small, compact and lightweight. Its window is big enough to allow quick target acquisition when shooting on nearby targets and also small enough to be suitable for EDC (everyday carry). It comes in classic black colour and is parallax free. The lens is tilted to provide unobstructed sight and coated to prevent scratches and ensure that there is maximum light transmission. Elevation and windage is set via two screws (1 click equals 1 MOA which is approximately 1.5 cm on 50 m); the user has to keep in mind to unscrew the lock screw one turn and a half before making any adjustments. The battery compartment is accessed on the side of the device, which is a nice feature since you do not have to dismount the device in order to replace the battery. The user has to pry out the tray with a screwdriver. STS2 operates on a CR2032 battery. STS 2 is very durable – C-more claims that it remains fully operational on -25 °C. The bottom part of STS2 is quite thick (keep in mind you also need an adapter plate), which results in the sight sitting quite high on the handgun. This might bother some users when aiming. However, this feature is nicely compatible with guns that have pre-designed slots for a red dot sight on their tops. If that is the case, the user is able to install the mount lower on the handgun.
Optical properties
STS (first generation) had quite a lot of blue tint. C-more managed to improved the quality of the optical components as STS2 no longer has it (can be seen in the pictures below). It operates on 1x magnification, meaning that it is comfortable to look through the glass with both eyes open. The user can choose between a 3 MOA-dot model and a 6 MOA-dot model. The definition of the dot is very delicate. Illumination system is turned on by pressing either one of two buttons (intensity switches) on the side of the device. The user can select from 10 brightness intensity levels, which is enough for every lighting condition. We prefer this illumination system to the one on STS from first generation. The device is turned off by pressing either one of the aforementioned buttons for 3 seconds. It is also equipped with a auto turn-off function – it will automatically power off if it is inactive for 8 hours.
Conclusion
In sport shooting competitions it is important to acquire targets rapidly – STS2's cleverly designed window, combined with exceptional optics, is designed to fulfill that need. This is a perfect choice for those who want a sight for both sport shooting and everyday carry.
