The Sightron SVIII ED 5-40x56 FFP is a high-magnification precision riflescope designed primarily for long-range and precision shooting. Its versatile 5-40x magnification range provides a useful combination of field of view at lower magnification and very high image magnification for precise aiming at extended distances.

The scope is built around a substantial 40 mm main tube, providing the internal space required for an exceptionally large 40 MRAD elevation adjustment range. Combined with 0.1 MRAD clicks, 10 MRAD per turret revolution, and Zero Stop, the adjustment system is particularly well suited to shooters who regularly dial significant elevation corrections.

The SVIII ED is available with LRM or MH-6 first focal plane reticles. Because the reticle is positioned in the first focal plane, its subtensions remain consistent relative to the target regardless of the selected magnification, allowing the reticle to be used for ranging, corrections, and holdovers throughout the zoom range.

Optical Properties

At the heart of the SVIII ED 5-40x56 FFP is Sightron's premium optical system with ED glass. The optical design is engineered to reduce chromatic aberration and improve color fidelity, resolution, contrast, and overall sharpness. This becomes particularly important at the upper end of the 40x magnification range, where optical imperfections become considerably more noticeable.

The large 56 mm objective lens works together with Sightron's MC-777 fully multi-coated lenses. The exclusive seven-layer coating technology is applied to both surfaces of the lenses to minimize unwanted reflections and maximize light transmission.

The field of view ranges from 7.22 m at 100 m at 5x to 0.9 m at 100 m at 40x. Eye relief remains approximately 96.5-94 mm (3.8-3.7 inches), while the side-focus system provides parallax adjustment from 10 m to infinity.

ExacTrack Adjustment System

One of the defining mechanical features of the scope is Sightron's patented ExacTrack windage and elevation system. The system is designed to maintain correct alignment between the adjustment mechanisms and the erector tube by maintaining a consistent and accurate point of pressure, both near the optical zero and toward the extremes of the adjustment range.

The tactical turrets provide 0.1 MRAD adjustment per click and 10 MRAD per revolution. Maximum adjustment is 40 MRAD for elevation and 20 MRAD for windage. An integrated Zero Stop allows the shooter to quickly return to the established zero position after dialing elevation for longer-distance targets.
