Schmidt & Bender Grey Filter 50 mm

• Color-neutral light reduction: The grey filter uses homogeneous SCHOTT glass to reduce incoming light without shifting color balance, helping keep the sight picture natural in bright conditions.
• 50 mm objective fit: Built for 50 mm Schmidt & Bender riflescopes, this filter gives a clean, model-matched solution for shooters who want to adapt a scope to changing light.
• Threaded objective mounting: The filter screws directly onto the objective, giving a secure fit that stays aligned and is easy to remove when light conditions change.
• Double-sided thread design: A male thread mounts the filter to the riflescope, while the female thread on the outer side still accepts compatible protective lens covers for practical day-to-day use.
• Accessory-system compatibility: As part of the S&B Accessories range, the filter integrates with Schmidt & Bender’s riflescope accessory system rather than acting as a generic add-on.

About the S&B Accessories Series

S&B Accessories is the support range built around Schmidt & Bender riflescopes, covering the practical add-ons that help adapt an optic to field conditions, transport and maintenance needs. Rather than treating accessories as universal parts, Schmidt & Bender organizes this series around model-specific compatibility, so each item is intended to match particular riflescope dimensions and mounting interfaces.

The range includes filters, anti-reflection devices, lens covers, adapters, cleaning equipment and magnification levers, with each accessory focused on a clear task. Objective sunshades are intended to reduce stray light and reflections, while the killFlash anti-reflection device uses a honeycomb structure to limit visible lens reflection. Light-shade extenders are offered for the eyepiece area, and threaded designs on selected accessories allow other components to be added without giving up protection. This makes the series especially relevant for hunters and precision shooters who want to tailor a riflescope to weather, light and handling requirements without changing the optic itself.

About the Schmidt & Bender Grey Filter 50 mm

The Schmidt & Bender Grey Filter 50 mm is a riflescope accessory designed for shooters who need to manage excessive brightness while keeping the image natural. Its main role is targeted light reduction: by cutting the amount of light entering the objective, it helps make the sight picture more comfortable and controlled in strong daylight or other bright viewing conditions. Because the filter is color neutral, it reduces brightness without introducing a noticeable tint, which is important when maintaining a familiar view through the scope.

The filter is made from homogeneous SCHOTT glass, a material choice that suits an optical accessory where consistency across the lens matters. In practice, this supports a clean and even image rather than a patchy or uneven dimming effect. The unit screws onto the objective via thread, giving a more secure and precise fit than a slip-on solution and making it suitable for regular field use on compatible 50 mm Schmidt & Bender riflescopes.

A particularly useful detail is the double-sided thread. One side mounts to the riflescope, while the outer female thread can still accept compatible protective lens covers. That means the filter can remain part of the setup without giving up front-lens protection. For shooters building a complete hunting optics or precision shooting setup around a Schmidt & Bender scope, this makes the Grey Filter 50 mm a practical way to tune brightness while keeping the accessory system intact.

About Schmidt & Bender

Schmidt & Bender was founded in 1957 by Helmut Schmidt and Helmut Bender in Biebertal-Fellingshausen, Germany. The company remains based in Biebertal and is known for making precision riflescopes for hunting, competition shooting, police and military use. Its product range includes established lines such as Zenith and PM II, reflecting a long focus on premium optical sights rather than a broad outdoor catalogue.

Over time, Schmidt & Bender expanded its optical expertise with a Hungarian subsidiary established in 1992 from an optical department acquired from MOM. In the hunting segment, the company introduced the first Zenith 2.5-10x56 in 2001, followed by the 1.1-4x24 Zenith in 2004, while FlashDot illumination became part of Zenith riflescopes from 2002. This background is relevant here because the company’s accessories are developed around the same riflescope-focused design approach as its optics.
