Recknagel Folding Leaf Sight

• Folding leaf design: The leaf folds down when not needed, helping protect the sight from knocks and keeping the rifle’s profile cleaner during transport and field use.
• Compact 22.50 mm length: The short footprint suits rifles where space around the barrel and sight base is limited, while still providing a practical rear aiming reference.
• 12 mm width: This proportion gives a clear, usable sight picture for traditional rifle setups and supports fast visual alignment at typical hunting distances.
• Made in Germany: German manufacture reflects the precise machining and consistent fit expected for iron-sight components that must align reliably with the rifle.
• Built for rifles: As a dedicated rifle sight accessory, it suits classic hunting rifle configurations where a durable mechanical backup or traditional open-sight arrangement is preferred.

About the Folding Leaf Sight Series

Recknagel folding leaf sights belong to the company’s long-established line of rifle sighting components for traditional hunting firearms. Within the broader Recknagel range, these sights sit alongside fixed rear sights, express sights, front sights and matching bases, giving gunsmiths and rifle builders a modular way to configure open-sight systems for different rifles and shooting styles. The series is aimed primarily at hunting rifles where a low-profile, robust and mechanically simple rear sight remains desirable.

The defining characteristic of this family is its folding rear leaf construction. That design allows the sight to stay unobtrusive when folded, while still being quickly available when a conventional iron-sight picture is needed. In practical terms, this makes the series well suited to classic sporting rifles, backup sight arrangements and builds where compactness matters around the barrel and sight base area. Rather than relying on complex adjustment systems, these sights focus on straightforward function, durable metal construction and compatibility with traditional rifle layouts. For shooters who value a clean, proven open-sight arrangement, the series offers a practical balance of compact dimensions, mechanical reliability and classic field handling.

About the Recknagel Folding Leaf Sight

The Recknagel Folding Leaf Sight is a compact rear sight component intended for rifle builds that use a traditional open-sight arrangement. Its main advantage is the single folding leaf, which keeps the sight low and protected when folded, yet ready for use when raised. That makes it especially suitable for hunting rifles that are carried through brush, placed in cases frequently or used in conditions where exposed sight parts can be knocked out of position more easily.

With a 22.50 mm length and 12 mm width, this model is designed to occupy minimal space while still presenting a practical rear reference for fast alignment with the front sight. The compact format helps preserve the clean lines of a classic rifle and can simplify integration on builds where barrel space is limited. In use, a folding leaf sight like this supports quick target acquisition at ordinary field distances, while also offering the mechanical simplicity many shooters prefer in a non-optical sighting system.

Because it is a dedicated metal sight accessory rather than a bulky add-on, the design suits rifles that need dependable, always-available aiming equipment without adding unnecessary weight or visual clutter. German manufacture also matters here: on a component as alignment-sensitive as a rear sight, precise dimensions and consistent machining are important for proper installation and a clean sight picture. The result is a straightforward, traditional solution for rifles that benefit from a durable folding rear sight.

About Recknagel

Adolf Recknagel began manufacturing firearm sights in 1867 in Albrechts, near Suhl, Thuringia, giving the company deep roots in the German gun trade. Today, Recknagel is known as a German manufacturer of firearm and riflescope mounting systems, sights, and hunting accessories, with a product range that includes scope mounts, Picatinny rails, firearm sights, triggers, safeties and hunting silencers.

The company’s background in sighting equipment is especially relevant to products like this one, because its catalog has long focused on the mechanical interface between rifle and aiming system. Recknagel also expanded into the tactical segment with the ERATAC line introduced in 2010, while continuing to serve traditional hunting applications with precisely made components. That combination of long manufacturing history and specialization in mounts and sights gives the brand a strong reputation among shooters and gunsmiths who value dependable fit and consistent workmanship.
