Hawke Sidewinder 30 SF 6.5-20x44 Product description

  • Second Focal Plane Reticle (20x Half Mil): The reticle is positioned in the second focal plane, maintaining a consistent apparent size across the full magnification range for clear visibility at every zoom setting. The Half Mil subtensions are calibrated to be accurate at 20×, the scope's designated reference magnification, allowing reliable holdovers and ranging calculations when used at that setting.
  • Resettable Locking Turrets with Witness Window: The exposed elevation and windage turrets are locking and resettable, allowing the shooter to establish a field zero and prevent accidental movement during carry or handling. The witness window on each turret provides an instant visual reference to the turret's current position relative to zero — eliminating the need to count rotations or track adjustments manually during a course of fire.
  • Index-Matched Removable Side Wheel: The included 2.5″ side wheel is index-matched to the parallax adjustment knob, allowing the shooter to mark specific target distances directly on the wheel for fast, repeatable parallax settings. The side wheel is removable when a lower-profile setup is preferred.
  • H5 Optical System with 18-Layer Fully Multi-Coated Lenses: High-grade, low-dispersion crown glass combined with 18-layer fully multi-coated lenses delivers strong light transmission, good contrast, and a clear image across the magnification range. The H5 optical specification supports reliable performance in the variable lighting conditions encountered during field shooting and hunting.
  • 20× Maximum Magnification for Precision Work: The 6.5–20× magnification range provides the upper-end resolution needed for precise shot placement at longer distances and for field target disciplines where target detail at range is important. The 6.5× minimum retains a useful field of view of 6.5 metres at 100 metres, which is sufficient for target acquisition at moderate hunting distances.
  • Multi-LED Illuminated Reticle with 6 Brightness Levels: The reticle centre is illuminated in red across 6 intensity settings, with off positions between each step. The stepped rheostat control allows precise brightness selection to match ambient light conditions, from overcast field shooting to low-light hunting situations at dusk.
  • Side Focus Parallax Adjustment from 9 Metres: Side-mounted parallax adjustment covers 9 metres to infinity, making the scope suitable for close-range disciplines such as field target shooting as well as conventional hunting and longer-range use. Parallax correction is accessible without changing grip or lifting the eye from the scope.
  • High Volume Eyebox with 102mm Eye Relief: The high-volume eyebox reduces the need for precise head positioning to obtain a full, clear sight picture — a practical advantage when shooting from varied positions or under time pressure. The 102mm of eye relief provides adequate clearance for use on centrefire platforms and rifles with significant recoil.

About the Sidewinder 30 Series

The Hawke Sidewinder 30 series is built on the H5 optical system within a 30mm aluminium mono-tube chassis, sitting within Hawke's mid-tier riflescope range. The series is designed for hunters, field target shooters, and multi-discipline shooters who require a high-performance, versatile optic that handles a wide variety of shooting applications without the added complexity or cost of a first focal plane precision system.

All Sidewinder 30 models feature high-grade, low-dispersion crown glass with 18-layer fully multi-coated lenses and an ultra-wide 24° field of view at minimum magnification — a notable characteristic of the series that provides broad situational awareness and fast target acquisition. The high-volume eyebox and 102mm eye relief make the scope comfortable to use across a range of shooting positions and rifle configurations.

The Sidewinder 30 series uses second focal plane reticles calibrated at a specific reference magnification, paired with exposed, locking, resettable turrets featuring Hawke's witness window — a visual indicator of the turret's current position that is particularly useful during field target competition or any shooting discipline where the shooter regularly dials between known distances. All models include an index-matched removable 2.5″ side wheel for repeatable parallax distance marking.

The Sidewinder 30 SF range is available in multiple magnification configurations — including 4.5-14x44 and 6.5-20x44 — each in a variety of reticle variants to cover applications from close-range airgun shooting and field target to hunting and medium long-range precision work.

About the Model (Hawke Sidewinder 30 SF 6.5-20x44)

The Hawke Sidewinder 30 SF 6.5-20x44 is a second focal plane riflescope designed for precision-oriented applications where higher magnification is the priority — including field target competition, long-range hunting, and any discipline where the shooter needs to resolve fine target detail at distance. The 6.5–20× magnification range provides a field of view of 6.5 metres at 100 metres at minimum power, with 20× at the upper end delivering the image scale needed for precise shot placement and target reading at longer ranges.

The 44mm objective lens, combined with the H5 optical system and 18-layer fully multi-coated lenses, delivers a bright, high-contrast image across the magnification range. An exit pupil of 6.8 mm at 6.5× supports adequate image brightness in reduced light, while the high-volume eyebox and 102mm of eye relief allow comfortable use across different head positions and rifle platforms.

The 20x Half Mil reticle is a second focal plane design with subtensions calibrated at 20×, the scope's reference magnification. At this setting, all holdover marks and spacing values correspond directly to the stated MRAD values, enabling reliable holdovers and rough ranging when shooting at the reference power. The reticle centre is illuminated in red with 6 brightness levels and off positions between each step, providing suitable visibility in a range of lighting conditions.

The exposed elevation and windage turrets are locking and resettable, each offering 28 MRAD of total adjustment travel in 1/10 MRAD click increments. The witness window on each turret provides an immediate visual guide to the current position relative to zero — a particularly useful feature during field target competition where the shooter dials between multiple known distances in the course of a single round. Side-mounted parallax adjustment covers 9 metres to infinity, with the included index-matched 2.5″ side wheel allowing repeatable distance marks to be set directly on the parallax wheel.

The locking fast-focus eyebell allows the dioptre setting to be secured once focus is established, and the removable zoom throw lever enables rapid magnification changes without breaking cheek weld. The mono-tube is nitrogen purged and fully sealed, providing waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof performance rated for all calibres. Overall length is 339 mm and weight is 680 g.

About Hawke

Hawke Optics is a British optics brand registered in England and Wales, with products distributed across Europe, North America, and international markets. The company produces a broad range of optical products including riflescopes, airgun scopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, red dot sights, and laser rangefinders, covering applications from hunting and precision shooting to nature observation and marine use.

Hawke organises its riflescope lineup into distinct optical system tiers — from the entry-level H2 through H5 to the flagship H7 — with each tier reflecting the glass specification, coating technology, and mechanical feature level of the products within it. The Sidewinder series is built on the H5 system, representing the mid-tier of Hawke's riflescope range and offering a balance of optical performance and practical features across a wide range of shooting applications.
