GRS Thumbhole, Howa 1500 LA HB

• Thumbhole hunting stock design: The thumbhole grip gives the firing hand a more natural, repeatable position, helping with steadier rifle control for both field shots and range practice.
• GRS SpeedLock adjustment: Tool-free cheekpiece adjustment makes it easier to set the stock to the shooter and optic, improving head position and more consistent sight alignment.
• Birch laminate construction: The laminate build combines rigidity with good resistance to changing weather, making it well suited to hard hunting use across different seasons.
• Glass bedding interface: Glass bedding supports a stable action fit, which helps the rifle maintain consistent accuracy potential under recoil and regular use.
• Long-action magnum capability: Compatibility up to .375 HH makes this stock suitable not only for standard hunting rifles, but also for heavier long-action chamberings used in demanding field conditions.

About the GRS Thumbhole Series

GRS Thumbhole is the company’s first thumbhole stock series and sits within the brand’s laminate hunting-stock range. It is built for shooters who want a stock that works equally well in the field and on the range, combining a more supportive grip shape with the robust feel of a traditional laminate construction. The series uses birch laminate with an oiled finish, giving it the stiffness and weather tolerance expected from a practical hunting stock while preserving a classic appearance.

A defining feature of the series is GRS SpeedLock, which allows quick stock adjustment without tools. In practice, that matters when a rifle must be set up for different optics, clothing layers, or shooting positions. The Thumbhole line is intended for hunting and general shooting use rather than pure competition, so its design balances control, comfort, and field durability. Across the series, GRS offers multiple inlets for different rifle platforms, making the Thumbhole a versatile option for shooters who want a more ergonomic stock shape without moving to a full chassis system.

About the GRS Thumbhole, Howa 1500 LA HB

GRS Thumbhole, Howa 1500 LA HB is a laminate rifle stock made for the Howa 1500 long action heavy barrel platform. Its layout is aimed at hunters and rifle shooters who want a steadier hold than a conventional sporter stock can provide, especially when shooting from supported positions, over uneven ground, or during longer range sessions. The thumbhole grip helps keep the wrist in a relaxed angle, which can reduce strain and make trigger control more consistent when taking deliberate shots.

The stock uses laminate construction and a glass bedding interface, a combination that supports rigidity and a stable action fit. That matters on a heavy-barrel rifle, where the stock needs to manage weight well and maintain consistent contact under recoil. The adjustable cheekpiece is another practical advantage, allowing the rifle to be set up for a more natural eye-to-optic relationship. A correct cheek weld improves repeatability, particularly when using larger hunting optics or dialing in a precise position from prone or from a rest.

With a 390.00 mm length of pull and a 40.00 mm forend width, this model is configured for controlled handling rather than minimum bulk. It is suited to applications such as alpine hunting, driven hunt, stalking, and woodland hunting, where a secure grip and stable front-end support are often more useful than the lightest possible stock. The design is not foldable, keeping the structure simple and solid, and it supports calibers up to .375 HH for broader long-action hunting use.

About GRS

GRS began in 2010 in Grodås, Hornindal, Norway, and the company focuses on rifle stocks for hunting and shooting. GRS Riflestocks AS is headquartered in Hornindal and builds its range around practical stock designs that improve rifle fit, shooting comfort, and field handling. The brand works across laminate, composite, and aluminum chassis stocks, covering traditional hunting rifles as well as more specialized shooting applications.

A key part of the company’s identity is its emphasis on ergonomic adjustment, including the GRS SpeedLock system used on its rifle stocks. GRS began making laminate rifle stocks in 2011, drawing on a family business background that started in 1983 as Grodås Møbler AS, a furniture manufacturer. That background helps explain the company’s strong focus on stock shaping, fit, and practical handling rather than purely cosmetic design.
