Vortex Viper PST vs Athlon Ares Price Comparison

Two very reasonable priced rifle scopes. Vortex Viper PST gen II 5-25x50 FFP which you can pick up for just 1.839,00€, comes from a Vortex family that has been on market for a long time and offer products for all price ranges. Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30×56 costs about 1.709,00€. The price difference is not that big but we have to take into consideration that Vortex has additional accessories.

Vortex Viper PST vs Athlon Ares Body Comparison

Because Atlhon`s 34mm tube diameter is scope heavier than Vortex`s, this is where the 150 grams difference comes from. The main tube of course has some turret advantages. Viper PST is also almost 20mm longer. Both of the scopes have parallax that can be easily adjusted.

Vortex Viper PST vs Athlon Ares Optics Comparison

Athlon has 5x more maximal magnification and 0.5x less minimal magnification. Vortex also has 0.9m less maximal field of view. But despite all that information, we think Vortex is optically better. It has a bit better field of view. Athlon might be better for observation since it has a bigger field of view on smaller magnification. Athlon` longer eye relief is good for strong recoiling rifles. Vortex has slightly better sharpness.
