Vortex Razor UHD 18x56 Details

About the series

Replacing the excellent Razor HD at the very top of Vortex’s impressive binocular lineup is the new Vortex Razor UHD series. Made in Japan, they are specifically designed by Vortex Optics to “take the best-of-the-best to the next level”. There's no doubt that these are ultra-high-end optics with highlights that include the use of phase-corrected Abbe-Koenig roof prisms, an APO lens system, multiple anti-reflection coatings on all lens surfaces as well as super tough, scratch and oil resistant coatings on exterior lens surfaces.

About the model

The very high 18x magnification in combination with the large 56mm lenses and the highest possible quality optical components and coatings mean this Vortex Razor will offer you the ultimate level of image detail at long range.

It is true to say that the large 56mm lenses add to the overall dimensions and weight of these binoculars, but the advantage they have is that they are also able to collect far more light than smaller ones and thus despite the very high 18x magnification, you still get a reasonably sized 3.1mm exit pupil. So whilst this binocular is not designed for very low light conditions, you still get a bright, high-quality image during the day.

The higher the magnification, the more any movement you make gets magnified in the view, thus because of this, as well as the increased weight and size mean that this binocular will almost certainly need to be used whilst fixed to a sturdy base like a tripod. The good news is like all other Vortex Razor UHD binoculars, this model is tripod adaptable making it very easy and relatively inexpensive to achieve using a standard tripod adapter.

This binocular has a very impressive 18mm of eye relief which is more than enough should you wear glasses and when you also factor in the adjustable multi-position eyecups you will be able to find the perfect setting to ensure you achieve the full image without balck rings on the edges of the view, with or without glasses on.

Whilst these are specifically designed for long distance observation, the minimum focusing distance of 3 meters is impressive when you consider just how powerful they are.
