The 8x42 Vixen New Foresta is an excellent all-purpose instrument that will perform very well in a wide range of situations and uses.
The high-quality optics and coatings combined with the 8x42 configuration, make sure that not only do these binoculars capture and then transmit a good level of light, but the reasonably large 5.25mm exit pupil results in a bright image and good low light performance.
At 129 meters wide at 1000 meters, the width of the image you are able to view whilst looking through these binoculars is very wide. This makes it easier to quickly locate your subject and then in the case of fast and perhaps erratic moving birds or wildlife easier to follow and keep in view.
The 18mm of eye relief is also excellent and thus in combination with the adjustable eyecups, it puts these forward as a good choice for eyeglass wearers.
At 3 meters the minimum focusing distance is good but not spectacular. This is fine for general use, but probably not the best solution if your main purpose is to study things like butterflies from a very close range.
