Whilst these binoculars are similar and share many of the same characteristics as the 10x42 New Foresta, the smaller 32 mm lenses that Vixen have used on this model means that they have also reduced the size and weight of the chassis to produce a smaller and more lightweight instrument. This makes the 10x32 New Foresta easier to carry on long walks and is a perfect companion on a wildlife adventure like a safari holiday.
However, the downside to these smaller lenses is that they are a little less effective at capturing light. During the day and in reasonably good light conditions, this is not a problem as there is more than enough light to achieve a bright, high-quality image, but in very poor light, a mid-sized binocular is not as capable as larger aperture alternatives.
The powerful 10x magnification gives these binoculars a reach with improved image detail at longer distances but does reduce the field of view compared to the 8x32 New Foresta. Therefore these are best suited to wide open spaces like on the plains, in the hills or at the coast.
The level of eye-relief is more than adequate for most users, but should you wear glasses, the 15mm that these binoculars produce might be a little short. In which case, the 8x32 New Foresta may be a better option for you.
