Leica Magnus 1.8-12x50 Details

  • Leica Magnus riflescopes currently boast the biggest field of view in the category of hunting riflescopes
  • They offer an astonishing 91 % of light transmission rate, which is a superb characteristic of a superzoom riflescope
  • only a few hunting riflescopes out there can match Leica Magnus' vivid colours and high contrast
  • Magnus riflescopes are not only optically brilliant, they are also ergonomically perfected
  • The BDC turret with a locking function found on Leica Magnus riflescopes is very well made and intuitive to use

Introduction

There are two model families in the Magnus series: the models with illumination and models without illumination. The ones that have illumination have the letter 'i' at the end of their names. These were introduced in 2016, while the ones without illumination have been launched in 2017.

About the Magnus series

In 2017, Leica introduced their non-illuminated Magnus riflescopes. The main reason was to cut down the price – these riflescopes are cheaper than the Magnus i series. As such, they are great for hunters who have no need for illumination but still want to experience the superior optical quality of the Magnus series.

As befits the company as renowned as Leica, these hunting, second focal plane riflescopes are a combination of high-performance optics and durable, robust mechanics. They allow scale zeroing without tools.

The most outstanding feature of the Magnus riflescopes is their extraordinary field of view. Other optics manufacturing companies have been trying hard to surpass Magnus' performance but these Leica riflescopes are still at the very top in this field. They boast a 6.3 or 6.7 (dependent on the model) zoom factor, combined with a great light transmission rate of more than 91 %. The series is known for its vivid colours and high contrast.

These riflescopes come without the illumination, meaning that they do not have the illumination regulation knob above the eyepiece.

All Magnus models come with a 30 mm tube. The buyer can also order them with a Zeiss ZM/VM rail underneath. All the models except the one of the wide-angle type can be ordered with a ballistic turret that has a locking function.

All Magnus models are made in Germany.

About the model (1.8–12x50)

1.8–12x50 is one of the riflescopes from the Magnus series. Its magnification range makes it suitable for most hunting situations. There are two reticles to choose from: L-4A and L-Ballistic. Both models can be ordered either with standard capped hunting turrets or with a BDC elevation turret with a locking function. The turrets produce audible clicks. The clicks are in milliradians – one click moves the point of impact for 1 cm on 100 m. The turrets are of the CW (clockwise) type. The BDC-turret comes in mrad configuration (1cm/100 m) by default but different dials made for specific calibers can be ordered extra. The riflescope features a 30 mm tube but can also be ordered with a Zeiss ZM/VM rail underneath for mounting purposes. This model features a 6.7x zoom factor. At 1.8x magnification, it offers 22.5 m of field of view on 100 m, which is extraordinary. The parallax is fixed at 100 m. It comes without illumination.

  • suitable for an all-round hunting use
  • Extraordinary maximum field of view (22.5 m / 100 m)
  • light transmission rate of more than 91 %
  • 6.7x zoom factor
  • 30 mm tube
  • can be ordered with a Zeiss ZM/VM rail underneath
  • parallax fixed at 100 m
  • clicks in milliradians
  • five reticles to choose from
  • option of purchasing a BDC turret

I have owned this product ( 1.8-12x50i ) for a few years now and it has been a very reliable good quality scope ,great glass , till now . The illuminated reticle has failed , it is been at the Leica service shop now for a few weeks so I hope to get it back soon and I have a previous experience with another Magnus illuminated scope and it had the same issue with the illuminated reticle; it was repaired by Leica also and is still working great , no problems with the 1.5-10x42i now .
