Scope mounts for Heym Express

About the Company

HEYM was founded in 1865, in Suhl, Germany, by Friedrich Wilhelm Heym. Throughout its history, the company has encountered many hardships. These include economic crises, the Nazi regime, and the post-WW II occupation of Germany. Consequently, it has changed its location more than once. Despite that, the Heym brand remains deeply respected and its guns widely admired.

As early as 1891, HEYM manufactured and patented the first hammerless drilling, a three-barreled hunting rifle with three triggers and three hammers on the same axis. Afterwards, the company began to expand, producing drillings, shotguns, and over and under rifle-shotgun combinations. They predominantly exported their products to Russia and the USA. In 1920, the company began producing Anson & Deeley Drillings, double rifle drillings, three trigger drillings, double rifles, and rifle shotgun combination guns.

After World War II, HEYM made a fresh start in the American part of divided Germany. There, the company manufactured products such as cuckoo clocks, slide rules, and spinning wheels since the ownership and making of guns were not allowed. HEYM restored its primary activity in 1952 when the revised laws again allowed the ownership and making of certain hunting and sporting guns.

In 1998, the owner of the company became Thomas Wolkmann. The company's name was first changed to HEYM Waffenfabrik GmbH (Limited), and then in 2007 to the present name, HEYM AG.

About the Rifle

Heym Express

Heym Express is a bolt-action rifle first presented in 1989 designed for professional African big-game hunting. With the company's intentions to make their way into the US market, Heym decided to redesign the rifle. The project started in 2009 as a prototype of an improved Express model that was designed by the custom rifle maker Ralf Martini. In 2013, the updated rifle was introduced to the public.

Heym Express features a double square bridge action based on Mauser 98; however, the design is not identical since the bolt on Heym only has two opposing steel locking lugs instead of three and the bolt’s diameter is slightly larger. There are integral dovetail bases machined into the receiver that feature double recoil lugs. In addition, the rotary Schönauer magazine is also wider than that of a Mauser 98 and has a 4+1 capacity. The trigger is pre-set at the factory at 703 g (3½ lbs).

Another improvement over the Mauser 98 is a one-piece firing pin screwed into the front of the cocking piece, making for a solid and durable unit. Mounted on the bolt shroud, there is a three-position safety catch with the centre position disengaging the firing pin to allow for easy and safe unloading. The rifle comes with included Open Express sights and a steel magazine floor plate that can be released by a push of a button.

The possible barrel length for Heym Express is 610 mm (24-inch).
