Scope Mounts for Brno ZKK 602

The History of Brno

The history of the Brno company or Czechoslovak Armory (Československá zbrojovka) as it was known prior to WWI, began in the city of Brno in the Czech Republic, formerly known as Czechoslovakia. In 1918, the Brno Rifles factory was established. Before 1918, Brno Plant was an arsenal located in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Brno started producing Mauser 98 rifles in 1920 after buying excess weapons and equipment from Mauser-Oberndorf. These Brno-produced Mausers had a 98/22 designation stamped onto the receivers marking the year of production.

In the period between WWI and WWII, Brno collaborated with the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield, England to develop a well-known Bren light machine gun. They produced weapons for the Czechoslovakian and German armies during World War II. After the war, the company was nationalized by the Czechoslovakian government and renamed Zbrojovka Brno. While it was under socialist control until 1989, it switched to the production of sporting weapons which quickly gained a reputation for their reliability. For some time, the company also produced light artillery and several other products such as tractors, typewriters, and early computers.

During the years they presented numerous models of weaponry such as the ZB vz. 26 light machine gun, ZB-50 heavy machine gun, the MG34, several bolt action rifles, ZKM and ZH series, ZKR 551 handgun etc.

The company was privatized in 1990, just three years before Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Zbrojovka Brno was acquired by Česká zbrojovka (CZ) in 2008. With the new ownership, they agreed to a longer lease, which allows the business to continue production in rented facilities. They still make high-end products for hunting and competition, including pistols, single-shot and double rifles, combination rifles, as well as over/under shotguns.

Brno ZKK 602 (Magnum) Rifle Review

Brno ZKK is a series of Czech bolt-action rifles designed and introduced in the early 1960s as a replacement for the vz. 52 rifles. There are three models available in the series, namely ZKK 600, ZKK 601 and ZKK 602, each with a different action length and chambered for a different caliber group. The three models also have somewhat differently shaped stocks; however, apart from those differences, they are structurally the same.

Brno ZKK 602 is the magnum-action version of the series. Due to its high magazine capacity and light weight, it was a popular choice for big-game hunters. The controlled-feed action system comprises a bolt with three locking lugs: two larger, main lugs at the bolt head, and a third, smaller safety lug underneath the bolt handle that acts as a backup and provides additional safety when the bolt locks into the receiver. The bolt is made of high-grade steel. The rifle has an internal box magazine with a capacity of up to six rounds, a long claw extractor, and a Mauser-style breech system.

Behind the bolt handle on the rear right side of the receiver, there is a two-position safety lever that locks the trigger mechanism while also blocking the bolt in the closed position. Additionally, the protrusion on the rear part of the striker from the bolt shroud also indicates when the rifle is cocked, and the striker is activated. Both standard and single-set triggers are available. Users can manually adjust the weight of the trigger pull by turning the screw accessible through the upper side of the receiver when the bolt is removed.

Like with the ZKK 600 and 601 models, the front sight is mounted on the ramp and secured in place by a spring-loaded catch allowing for easy and fast removal. The rear sight which is adjustable for windage is attached to the dovetail and secured by indentation. Brno ZKK 602 comes with a rubber recoil pad and a 19 mm milled dovetail grooves at the top of the receiver which are suitable for installing scope mounts.

The rifle is chambered for the following calibers:

  • .300 Win. Mag.

  • .375 H&H Mag.

Brno ZKK 602 comes with milled 19 mm dovetail grooves at the top of the receiver which are suitable for installing scope mounts. The recoil notch is positioned on the left side of the rear mounting surface. Due to the longer ejection port suitable for larger calibers, one-piece mounts are not interchangeable between Brno ZKK 602 and 600/601 models.

For one-piece mounts to fit on a rifle, mounting surfaces on these rifles must match in every dimension.
