Geovid HD-R is a series of rangefinding binoculars made by Leica Camera AG. These binoculars have the EHR (Equivalent Horizontal Range) function, which is great for inclined shots. Geovid binoculars are equipped with Perger-Porro prisms that greatly increase the light transmission rate, making the device usable in all lighting conditions. Images are outstandingly bright with high contrast – the optical performance is at a very high level. HD-R models do not offer as many functions as the HD-B models. They lack the ballistics calculator. Nevertheless, not many hunters require one, which is why HD-R will satisfy the needs of most. These binoculars offer all the functions of HD-B with the exception of those that come with the ABC (Advanced Ballistic Compensation). For most hunters, the EHR (Equivalent Horizontal Range) function is enough. The first generation was released in 2015. Three models were available – 8x42 (Type 402), 10x42 (Type 403) and 8x56 (Type 500). The new models are not divided into “types” but are marked with the number ‘2700’ instead. You can choose between 42mm and 56mm lenses for both daytime and nighttime observations. Together with rangefinding functions, these binoculars provide outstanding optical features. The HD optical system with fluoride glass eliminates color fringing from edge to edge. Fully multi-coated glass surfaces provide an incredible resolution. They boast a wide field of view. Eyecups can be fixed at multiple positions. The binoculars feature a central focus and a diopter on both oculars (one for the image, one for the display). Geovid HD-R binoculars are extremely durable because of the magnesium housing. They are fully waterproof. The user cannot upload his or her own ballistic curve since these do not have a microSD slot like the HD-B versions.
Geovid HD-R is a rangefinding binocular, equipped with an EHR function. It also has temperature and air pressure sensors. Geovid HD-R boasts an ergonomic open-hinge design that helps you to hold them in hands and carry them for a longer time. A rugged rubber armoring made from magnesium protects them against impacts and provides a non-slip grip. These binoculars are also fully waterproof, fog proof and submersible to a water depth of 5 meters (16.5 feet).
Geovid HD-R has a Perger Porro system that provides the best of both worlds – roof and Porro prisms. The system maximizes light gathering and provides incredibly bright images with the help of a fully multi-coated extra-low dispersion fluoride glass system that minimizes chromatic aberration. The lenses are coated with thin layers of Leica's Highly Durable Coating (HDC), the prisms are phase corrected (P-40) and the HighLux System provides brilliant contrast, vibrant colors and an outstandingly sharp resolution from edge to edge. The Aquadura coating is applied to external glass surfaces. It significantly repels moisture, oil, dust, and other particles. This feature extends the lifetime of binoculars since you don’t need to clean them very much. They are equipped with twist-up four click-stop eyecups that allow a proper eye relief setting for those not wearing glasses. Focusing is adjusted with a central focus wheel.
Geovid HD-R is equipped with rain-guards, objective lens covers, a neoprene neck strap, and a carrying case.
