MAKuick Mount for Blaser, Picatinny Rail Details

Introduction

MAK is a German company, specialized in mounting solutions for optics. Their offer also includes riflescopes and red dot sights. MAK's products, made with topmost precision, are known for their high quality. To appease every need when it comes to mounting solutions, MAK has many series of mounts in their offer.

Blaser has revolutionized the way riflescopes are mounted on the rifles by introducing a unique mounting system. Most Blaser rifles (R8, R93, B95/B97, D99, K95, S2, BBF95/97 and many others) have four notches on the barrel, the dimensions of which are the same on every Blaser rifle that uses this mounting system. Blaser is one of the first rifle manufacturing companies that introduced the barrel-mounting system.

MAKuick one-piece

MAKuick mounts are robust and reliable. They offer a 100 % repeatability, meaning that the user can remove them and put them back onto the rifle without the need to re-zero. MAKuick mounts are designed so that they can withstand the recoil of even the most powerful calibers out there. They are lightweight because both the base and the rings are made from aluminum. The whole system that is in contact with the rifle (the clamping assembly) is made from steel. MAKuick is a versatile series of mounts – it allows mounting of all sorts of rings, all sorts of mounting rails (LM, ZM/VM, SR, Convex), different adapters that allow mounting of other devices such as ATN X-Sight; Pulsar Digisight, Apex, Trail; Fortuna devices etc. MAKuick mounts made for the mounting of riflescopes with a rail underneath are made of one part. Because of this, they are more robust, durable and reliable. For digital and thermal optical devices, the buyer has to pick a MAKuick base with four holes on which rings are usually put. Instead of the rings, the user mounts an adapter on top that works as a connector between the thermal optics and the MAKuick base. MAK makes one-piece MAKuick bases for the following rifles: CZ 527, CZ 550, Merkel KR 1, Merkel RX Helix – also fits on all Picatinny rails, Sauer 303, Sako 75, Sako 85 S, Sako 85 M, Tikka T3 and Blaser rifles. They also make a MAKuick base for break barrel rifles with a 12 mm dovetail and for break barrel rifles with a 14.5 mm dovetail (usually found on Czech break barrel rifles).

MAKuick mounts made for Blaser rifles have some advantages over Blaser's Saddle mount. The base is designed so that the user can choose where the rings are mounted. Because there are more holes for the rings on the base, the user can move the riflescope back and forth. Basically, the riflescope can be mounted closer to the shooter's eye, which is great. The mount's mechanism is designed so that it can be mounted on any barrel and there won't be any play. The user can mount a Picatinny rail on the classic MAKuick base made for a Blaser rifle – the result is a detachable steel Picatinny rail that can be quickly removed and put back on the Blaser rifle.

Picatinny rail

Picatinny rail consists of slots with 5.23 mm spaces between one another, which means that it can be used across its entire length. It is simple to mount and interchangeable – if something is made for a Picatinny rail, it will fit regardless of the manufacturer or manufacturing date. It is affordable, resilient and reliable – this is why it so commonly used by professionals and military. Because of all its great qualities, Picatinny rail has been dominating the rail market in the recent years.

Picatinny is a big step forward from the Weaver standard. Weaver has a few predesignated slots while Picatinny has slots all over its surface, allowing the device to be mounted wherever the user finds it fitting. Weaver's slot is 3.8 mm wide, which is why ring mounts made for a Weaver rail will also fit on a Picatinny rail while ring mounts made specifically for a Picatinny rail will not fit on a Weaver rail. This is one of the main reasons why Picatinny is a far better mounting solution.

Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles

Blaser's system works great – it is repeatable and allows plenty of combinations. There is a problem though – for optics such as night vision riflescopes, thermal riflescopes, riflescopes with tubes of a non-standard diameter, and riflescopes with a non-standard mounting rail underneath, the offer of mounts on the market is scarce. Since the majority of these optics can be mounted on a Picatinny rail, the solution is obvious.

Detachable Picatinny rails for Blaser rifles

These work like all other mounts designed for a four-notch Blaser mounting system. The optic mounted on the rail can be quickly removed and put back on. This is great when the user has two different optical devices (a thermal or night vision riflescope and a day riflescope, for example). They can be switched between one another without having to re-zero every time.

Mounting instructions

First, the user has to make sure that the rifle is fixed (it is advised that the rifle is put into a rifle holder). Once the mount is put into the four notches on the Blaser rifle's barrel and fixed by rotating the levers for 180°, the lock screws have to be unscrewed. The user then adjusts the clamping force of the adjustment screws with a hex key so that they are tightened but not too tightened. The lock screws have to be re-tightened to complete the mounting procedure. Once the riflescope is put into the ring mount, no lapping is required. The rings do not have to be glued. Nevertheless, some gunsmiths prefer to glue them to ensure that the riflescope does not move during shots. The recommended tightening torque is 2.2 Nm.

A very nice rail - If a little on the heavy side. By

This rail is a good quality, solid bit of kit. If a bit on the heavy side. From what I can tell, the position of the rail can be biased forward or back by removing a couple of hex bolts, positioning the rail on the mount according to the desired bias, then replacing the two bolts. This effectively increasing the length of an already relatively long rail. I in my case I didn't need to do this however.

I am using Burris Eliminator scope on this mounts and could not be more happy with it. It return back to zero without problems and it is really well made.

Optics Trade service and comunication was also excelent when I ordered this mount.

Great product, a bit expensive By

I've been using MAKuick mounts for the Blaser R8 platform since 2013 and I can say that they are the best for my needs.

I own 2 original Blaser and 4 MAK mounts for my Blaser R8 platform. Craftsmanship on these beasts is second to none. I favor them both over the original Blaser and the Innomount ones.

The only thing I would change on these mounts are the rigs: I would make them 50%-50% half rings instead of the current 40%-60% construction. This type of ring construction can end up scratching your scope when you mount the top half of the ring. However, both Blaser and Innomount go for the same 40%-60% half rings construction, so there is nothing better on the market at this point.

Pricey? Hell, yeah!
But lower than competition, though.

Optics Trade packaging/delivery service? Impeccable!
It takes them 3-4 business days to reach me here in Romania. Optics Trade HQ, as you probably know, is in Slovenia. I can tell you that even the Germans can't beat that timeframe and they export loads of stuff, so they should have better carriers!

Optics Trade after market service level? Excellent!
At one point, MAK packed a blaser aimpoint mount with the wrong adapter in the original package. So i ended up w/ an unusable mount. Took some pics, emailed them to Optics Trade and in not time another mount with the correct adapter plate was on its way. They even sent the carrier to pick up the wrong one w/o any costs on my part. Now, we all mess things up from time to time. The difference is in the approach we take when trying to fix the mess. I can tell you that on this side of the pond, Europe that is, screw-ups service level is kinda lacking. Not with Optics Trade. I almost felt like States side, where the service level is what keeps businesses in business.

Best from Romania!
