Mid-sized binoculars like these with their 10x magnification and 32mm objective lenses are ideal for users who need an easy to carry and portable binocular that has a little more range and image detail than an 8x instrument can provide. However, compared to the 8x32 HCF binoculars they have a slightly narrower view and are not able to provide the same level of performance in low light and therefore are ideally used during the day and in more wide open spaces.Perfect applications include wildlife observers, hunters or nature lovers who perhaps enjoy hiking or camping in the hills and mountains or overlooking a lake or the ocean. Their compact shape also makes them a good choice of binocular to keep tucked away in your glove compartment or daysack to take out and use whenever the need arrives. For a binocular in this size and magnification class, the 18mm of eye-relief is impressive and thus are a good choice should you need to wear glasses whilst binning.
The Fujinon HCF series of roof prism binoculars are designed for the enthusiast who still needs a good level of performance from their instrument but at a more budget-friendly price point. The series includes a good selection of sizes and magnifications with highlights that include comfortable, lightweight housings that are fully fog and waterproof and fully multi-coated optical systems with quality Bak-4 glass prisms. By moving part of their production to China, Fujinon created this HCF series to provide the enthusiast with a binocular that still achieves a good level of performance, but which has a more budget friendly price tag than their instruments that are entirely manufactured in Japan.
These HCF binoculars have a typical shape for a modern roof prism binocular, with a single bridge that makes for an instrument that is rugged, yet lightweight and comfortable to hold. The exterior has a tough rubber coating which has a number of functions. Firstly the shock absorbing qualities provide protection to the optics within. The rubber also improves comfort and grip levels and then lastly it is a less reflective surface than harder more shiny materials and thus improvers camouflage levels. The chassis is fully waterproof and filled with a dry nitrogen gas which prevents the internal glass surfaces from fogging when the binocular experiences rapid temperature changes. Centrally located, the focus wheel is large and easy to reach and turn even with one finger. These binoculars also feature a right eye diopter adjuster which is important as it facilitates you being able to adjust them to match that of your particular vision. The level of eye relief on all models is impressive and can be precisely positioned using the twist-up eyecups to suit your particular requirements to ensure you achieve the full image with or without eyeglasses.
The optical system on the 42mm models has been fully multi-coated with a material that has special anti-reflection properties. This optimises both the direction and the amount of light that passes through the instrument and results in a brighter, better quality image. Note the 32mm models are “multi-coated” which means not every glass surface throughout the whole system has these coatings. Instead, it is likely to only be the first and last lenses. This is better than none at all, but obviously not quite as good as those that are “fully multi-coated”. To correct the inverted image, the HCF series uses roof prisms made from good quality BaK-4 optical glass.
Included in the box is a protective case. Fashioned from woven nylon, it has a good level of padding and its own carrying strap. Also included is a binocular neck strap, cleaning cloth, rubber eyepiece cover (rainguard) and objective lens covers.
The Fujinon HCF binoculars are supplied with a two-year warranty as standard.
