Picatinny rail consists of slots with 5.23 mm spaces between one another, which means that it can be used across its entire length. It is simple to mount and interchangeable – if something is made for a Picatinny rail, it will fit regardless of the manufacturer or manufacturing date. It is affordable, resilient and reliable – this is why it so commonly used by professionals and military. Because of all its great qualities, Picatinny rail has been dominating the rail market in the recent years.
Picatinny is a big step forward from the Weaver standard. Weaver has a few predesignated slots while Picatinny has slots all over its surface, allowing the device to be mounted wherever the user finds it fitting. Weaver's slot is 3.8 mm wide, which is why all mounts made for Picatinny will also fit on a Weaver rail while those made for Weaver will not fit on a Picatinny rail. This is one of the main reasons why Picatinny is a far better mounting solution.
EAW is a German company, known for producting top-quality mounts. Their Picatinny rails, which are all made from steel, have a nice finish and come with a unique channel in the middle, allowing the user to clearly see the rifle's sights. Screws are included. EAW chooses only the best materials for their products. All of these great features; however, come at quite a steep price.
Weatherby was founded in America, California, in 1945 by Roy Weatherby. The company is famous for their Magnum cartridges which were devised on the belief that one shot-kills are best achieved with high-speed and lightweight bullets.
Mark V is Weatherby's revolutionary action. Devised in 1957, it soon became one of the most popular actions on the market. Many like to call it „the strongest action of all“ as it is designed so that it can withstand a huge amount of pressure (it is equipped with 9 locking lugs). Mark V was produced by Sauer & Sohn until 1973 (Roy could not find a manufacturer that could produce to his requirements in the US). Many Weatherby rifles are equipped with this action: Accumark, Classic Custom, Crown Custom, Custom Outfitter, Deluxe, DGR, Euromark/Eurosport, Fibermark/Fibermark Stainless, Lazermark, Royal Custom, SLS, SBGM, SPM, Sporter, Stainless, SVM, Synthetic, TRR, Ultra Lightweight. The action has a pair of holes on each of the two mounting surfaces. It is push feed and requires only 57 degrees of bolt lift, which makes it fast to operate. There are three emergency gas ports in the bolt body. Rifles that had this action were made for Wby. cartridges but also for other prominent calibers.
Vanguard's action is based on a one-piece forged receiver with a flat bottom. The machined steel bolt has a locking lug on each side. The left side of the ejection port is blocked to ensure that empty cartridges are always ejected to the right side. There are two holes on each of the two mounting surfaces. The action is push-feed.
Howa 1500 is a bolt-action centerfire rifle available in both short- and long-action versions, made in Japan. The long-action model (LA) is chambered for 6x5x55 SW, .25-06 Rem., .270 Win. and .30-06 Sprg. Magnum long-action models are chambered for .300 Win. Mag., .338 Win. Mag., 7mm Rem. Mag. and .375 Ruger. Standard version holds 5 + 1 rounds but 5- and 10-round removable box magazines are also available. Magnum version holds 3 + 1 rounds. Its safety has three positions. As regards stock and finish options, there are many versions on the market. The barrel is free-floating to ensure great accuracy. The action is push-feed.
Weatherby 300, Vanguard, Europa, Weatherby rifles equipped with Mark V action and Howa 1500 LA have actions of same dimensions, which is why they share the same mounts.
Rifles Weatherby 300, Vanguard, Europa, those equipped with Mark V action and Howa 1500 La have a similar action as Howa 1500 SA. The radiuses of the mounting surfaces are the same but there is a difference in B distance (see the picture below). This is why two-piece mounts made for Weatherby 300, Vanguard, Europa, those equipped with Mark V action and Howa 1500 LA will fit Howa 1500 SA while one-piece mounts made for those rifles will not fit Howa 1500 SA.

Remove all the stains (grease, oil etc.) from the rifle's receiver with a cleaning fluid (acetone). Once the surface is clean and dry, check whether the screws match the rail and the holes on the receiver. Make sure that the Picatinny rail is compatible with the the rifle by inspecting the mounting holes on both. Before mounting the rail permanently, apply a minimal amount of thread-locking fluid 278 or 648 on screws and contact surfaces. Be careful not to get the fluid in or near the mounting holes. Carefully clean the remaining excess fluid around the rail with a cleaning fluid. Using a torque driver, screw the screws appropriately (up to 2.2 Nm) – do not overtighten.
The product has a warranty period of 30 years.
