Holosun Reflex Sights

‘Reflex’ is a unifying term for red dot sights that feature a single lens in the front and a LED-diode in the back. The LED emits a beam onto the lens which then reflects into the user’s eye. Most of these sights are compact and thus perfect for mounting on a handgun, but some bigger ones are also available. These sights are typically equipped with a big window that allows a quick target acquisition. In some cases, the user can choose between versions that differ in dot sizes. The ones that feature a smaller dot provide less coverage when shooting at longer distances, which makes them a perfect choice for a rifle. The bigger dots provide more coverage, but also allow the user to get on target quicker. 

Reflex red dot sights, frequently referred to as open reflex sights, are problematic to use in the rain, because the water can easily get in between the lens and the diode, resulting in the deformed definition of the dot. Some manufacturers solved this issue either by introducing a reflex red dot sight that is closed from both sides or enclosing a special cover that prevents the rain from blocking the optical path.

Instead of elevation and windage turrets, the compact-type reflex red dot sights usually come with regulation screws. In some cases, a lock screw must be unscrewed before making any adjustments to elevation and windage.

Holosun makes all types of red dot sights, including those of the reflex type. In their offer, there are both compact (HS407C, HS507C, HS508T) and bigger, robust reflex red dot sights (HS512T, HS510C). The compact ones are intended for handguns, while the bigger ones are a perfect choice for an AR platform.

HS407 is the most basic one – it comes with a 2 MOA dot reticle. HS507C, HS508T, HS510C, and HS512T allow the user to switch between a classic 2 MOA dot and a 2 MOA dot surrounded by a 32 MOA circle (circle dot). The letter C in the model name indicates that it is equipped with a solar cell and thus works on solar power. The click value of these red dot sights is 0.5 MOA, and all of them come with 12 illumination intensity levels, which is enough for every lighting condition. They are all powered by a CR2032 battery.

The models also come with the ShakeAwake function. If the user forgets to turn off the illumination for some reason, it will power off automatically after a specified period. When the unit detects movement, it will power back on in an instant.
