The relatively powerful 10.5x magnification and small size make this Steiner Wildlife XP the perfect travel and safari binocular as they are easy to pack away and then carry when out in the field, even if you also carry another device like a camera. They are also an ideal option for nature-loving campers, hikers or even hunters exploring wide open spaces where the distances to your subject is often a little greater than what you experience in a dense forest for example.
Whilst you do get greater reach, it is important to note that the 10.5x magnification in combination with the fairly small 28 mm lenses produces a 2.7mm exit pupil. Whilst perfectly adequate, it is not huge and thus indicates that these Steiner binoculars will perform best during the daytime in good to fair light conditions on not so well in low light situations.
The double hinge body design on these compact binoculars is important as not only does it enable them to fold down to a tiny size, but it facilitates the very wide interpupillary distance range which ensures they will accommodate a wider range of users and makes these a good choice for older children or those with very close-set eyes.
At only 2 meters, the minimum close focus distance on these is pretty good which adds to their versatility as in combination with Steiners Fast-Close-Focus central focusing wheel, you can very quickly go from observing wildlife in the distance to closely studying a nearby butterfly on a flower.
