Vixen Ascot Binoculars

The Japanese made Ascot series of binoculars from Vixen optics are made with a definite nod towards astronomy, but with a wide range of size and magnification combinations available, wide fields of view, plenty of eye relief and a whole host of other features, these can also be used very effectively in a wide range of terrestrial applications.

For example, the 32mm models are perfect for nature lovers, birders and wildlife observes looking for a comfortable, easy to carry binocular, whilst the 8x42mm model is similar, but better suited to those looking for an improved low light performance and then the larger and heavier 50mm models are most certainly aimed at astronomy and/or delivering the brightest possible views in very low light situations.

Important Features

No matter the magnification or the lens size, all models within the Ascot series use Porro prisms and thus feature the traditional binocular shape with the objective lenses positioned further apart than the ocular lenses. Whilst this iconic shape has been around for many years and is largely the result of the prism design, it is very comfortable to hold and use, even during long periods of observation. Unlike many astronomy only binoculars that have individual eyepiece focusing, these also feature a large centrally located focus wheel that makes it easy to make rapid and accurate focal changes good for both astronomy and terrestrial uses. A right eye diopter adjuster enables you to set up your optics to compensate for any differences in vision between your left and right eyes and twist-up eyecups with a good level of eye-relief makes them comfortable to use, with or without eyeglasses. These Vixen binoculars are also tripod adaptable, which for astronomy, in particular, can be very useful. They are also waterproof and filled with dry nitrogen gas which protects the inner glass surfaces from fogging up. This combined with an exterior surface that has an anti-slip and protective rubber armour makes the Ascot binoculars suitable for use in all weather conditions.

Optical Properties

All glass surfaces have a multilayered coating of a special anti-reflection material that reduces undesired reflections and increases light transmission levels. The result is a brighter image with improved definition. On top of this, the Porro prisms in all Vixen Ascot binoculars are made from high-quality BaK-4 optical glass which once again adds to the overall image quality.

Accessories

As with most other Vixen binoculars, the Ascot series comes with a good selection of accessories. This includes a soft protective carry case, a padded neck strap, protective covers for both the objective and ocular lenses and a microfiber cleaning cloth.
