The combination of the 10x magnification and 42 mm lenses on these Vixen New Foresta binoculars means they will perform best at medium to longer ranges and in wide open spaces where the viewing distances are a little greater and there is a good amount of available light. However, the use of good quality optics and coatings most certainly improves the light transmission and ensures that these binoculars will perform well enough in all but really bad light conditions.
The field of view is more than respectable for a 10x power which only adds to their versatility as it makes it easier to scan wide open areas looking for points of interest at a distance or pick up and then follow fast moving wildlife from close range.
This binocular also has a good minimum focal distance of 2 meters, which certainly adds to its versatility by making it possible for you to also observe in great detail objects and wildlife like butterflies and birds from close range.
For those who wear glasses, it is important to note that the 15mm of eye-relief on this 10x42 model falls a little short of the minimum that we recommend to guarantee a full field of view. If this is a concern, consider the 8x42 New Foresta that has 18mm, or perhaps the 10x50 version which has an excellent 20mm.
